Disc wont spin
PS3 blu-ray drives are famous for this fault. sony know about it just like the YLOD fault but claim not responcabillity. which just sums sony up as a whole really.the disc wont spin as the motor that rotates the disc has shorted out (mainly due to poor parts i.e not brand new) as sony SHOULD be using.
sometimes the solder under the motor heats up so much it just melts and in turn also melts the contacts, thus stops the disc from spinning.
if your good at soldering and are patient, you could have ago at resoldering it again. then send sony the bill!! or do the easy way, open the ps3, remove the blu ray drive, take off the logic board (the main chip board at the bottom of the drive) and buy another drive from ebay. tip for you though, if you have a 60gb ps3, get a blu ray drive from a 60gb machine, if you have a 40 or 80gb get a drive from the same model, etc etc, you need the logic board as they are paired to the motherboard in the ps3, another cheap way sony tried to stop people fixing them and trying to force people to pay them for repairs. LMAO! anyway, when you get the other drive, just plug all cables in to your logic board and disgard the one the drive came with (the new drive i mean) and pop the drive back in once you get the bottom screwed back on, close the top, and that should be you all set again. hope this helps

SOURCE: Ps3 wont play games, dvds, or blurays. The disc doesn't spin??
This may be a case of replacing the laser lens. If your console is out of warranty, take it to your local Game Stop, or somewhere that does Sony repair. PSR does Sony authorized repair, but it usually involves shipping. You can contact PSR at 877-777-3491, or email at [email protected]. Hope this was helpful

screen says reading disc after i reset flash but disc wont spin . any help will be much appreciated !
i have a new problem now i have the disc drive open and running but the disc starts to spin then stops then repeats this 3 or 4 times also the laser alternates from red and blue till the disc stops
thats your laser thats gone mate. the laser eye isnt reading the disc but it knows theres one there if the disc keeps spinning slow a few times then stops. it is possible to change the laser but to be honest it would be far easier to buy a second hand but working drive and just swap the logic boards over
