Ink leaks and pools in right back paper tray and leaks onto desk

Black and Blue ink leaks into right back paper tray ruining paper. It leaks down to desk and spreads down side of paper tray. This started happening about 6 months ago when the printer turned two years and happens about every two weeks. We have to take a cleaner and cotton balls and wipe off all the pooled ink from the inside of the printer and off the desktop. What causes this and can it be prevented? My brother in law who is an IT guy says this happens to HP all the time and he cleans the ink up often.

It sounds like your collection assembly is full. this is not something you can do anything about. it must be replaced and it will be costly. you are probly better off to replace it

A thick black line prints out on back of paper every time i print.

called the local Canon printer repair facility, and a serviceman said that the black line is caused by too much ink in the ink absorber device below the paper path. He said to fix it requires disassembling part of the printer, replacing the absorber foam, installing a longer tip for the excess ink, and reassembling and testing the printer. I asked if this would be a permanent fix. He said no, that the problem could reoccur as the absorber foam would eventually fill up again.
This was posted 2 years ago by Shadyman.
The foam he is talking about is underneath the gray metallic strip that you see when you open the cover.
I used strips of electrical tape to cover that area where the ink is being picked up.
You can open the cove more by dislodging the piston on the right side. Needs two people, one to push the flaps apart and the other to pull the joint out.
Cut a 4 inch long strip, than fold the tape on it self such that there is about 3/4 of sticky tape left. This will allow you to push that portion underneath the metal strip where the paper normally would go. Place it at the location where the black line is (on the Paper). This will create a barrier between the foam and the paper as it moves by. ( I just had to figure out how I can do that)
Secure the tape by taping it on the the black bar, the one with the little fins on it.
I was able to push the tape down a little gap between the black bar and where the white rollers are. Make sure that the tape lays as flat as possible on that bar.
You may need to use two tape strips to cover the area..
I can also see my strips as I look from the outside at the **** where the paper comes out the printer onto the tray.
I guess the the foam swells up and hits a roller, which than offset prints the ink onto the underside of the paper.
Now I have no black line any more.
I know it's a fix, not a repair, but it works so fare.
Thanks to Shadyman for leading me in the right direction.

Need to clean waste ink pad on epson r265 printer

You need to remove the Paper support tray, printer cover front cover usb housing and right and left housing then remove the waste ink tray inside the tray you will find about 12 pads that need taking out you can just replace them with new ones or wash and dry them and re-install them the latter is very messy then refitt everything and then you will need the service utility to restet the printer If you need further help email me at [email protected] or try me on msn messenger using [email protected]

When printing on my Canon PixMA iP4500 printer I get a 3/16'' black stripe down the back of the page which ruins the page and uses excessive ink.

Thank-you for clarification.
Because the line or marks are on the back of the paper I suspect that it may be a faulty ink cartridge. Your first step would be to press te paper feed button on the printer; it should send a clean page through. If the markings are there then you must inspect the printer for any hidden pools of ink. clean all the areas with methyl hydrate, including rollers. Replace the black cartridge with a new one. I suspect that your current cartridge is one that you have had refilled. A refill is very economical but sometimes they damage the fill port seal allowing air pressure to push the ink out causing a pool of ink. Because the ark is allways at the RHS, were the printer jet assembly parks itself I suspectyou will find the pool of ink at that side. It would eventually drip itself dry. Buy a new cartidge.

Leaking black ink on printed pages

Hi, please attempt to run a numerous blank paper through the printer. This will dry or clean any ink found on the rollers.
Continue to run blank pages through the printer until no more ink is found on the paper, then attempt printing. If ink stains or streaks are still present, the printer may need service.

Larges spots of ink on paper

That used to happen to me as well. It turned out that when I left the paper standing in the tray, it would bend slightly at the end. I stopped leaving the paper in the tray in the afternoons and only putting it in when i needed to print and that seemed to solve the problem. A hassle I know but thats the cost of buying a photo printer to do office jobs.

Black line on back of page

It sounds like you have a black ink leak and it is smearing onto the paper when you print. I don't know any reasons for this except if you topped the black ink up yourself, and didn't re-block the hole you made. Then I guess the ink would gravity drip onto the paper tray while you weren't printing. Otherwise I would suggest changing the print head, but this might be expensive.
