So yesterday my zune was working fine nothing unusual at all. when i
wake up this morning and try to turn it on nothing happens no matter
what i pressed nothing would turn the screen on. so i plugged it into
my xbox thinking maybe the battery was dead. but then when i plug it in
the screen comes on, the battery is almost full. so i unplugged it and
the second i unplug it the screen shuts off and i cant do anything
again. all day it has progressively gotten worse now when i plug my
zune into anything all it does is go to the reboot screen and shuts
down goes back to the reboot screen and repeats that cycle. once and a
while the restart will actually work and the zune will come on but then
if i try to unplug it, it turns right back off. Ive tried resetting it
and all that but its not working and ive tried formatting it but i cant
considering none of the buttons will respond...... How to solve this problem

There are two ways to format an Mp3 player - one on the computer
itself, and one in Windows Media Player. Both methods will end up
erasing all the songs on the player, but the player will be "good as
new" after that. Sometimes reformatting in this manner will override
the player's native formatting and cause problems - this can be
reversed in most cases by updating the player's firmware. Firmware
upgrades are available from most manufacturers' websites.
WARNING: The following procedures will erase all songs on the player.
Check if the file system is NTFS. If yes, format it to FAT or
FAT32. - Connect player to computer, double-click my computer, right
click on icon of mp3 player and select format. This only applies to
Windows-based computers.
You can also format the player in Windows Media Player itself:
Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media
Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath
the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking
on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "name of
Mp3 player here 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select
"Format." - this should erase everything.

SOURCE: my zune is not detected by my laptop or zune software.
try to wiggle the zune cord but not to hard

To reset the zune you must press and hold the back button and the top part of the zune pad. Other parts of the zune pad will not work.
When plugging the zune into your PC does the PC detect it (device manager -> portable devices). You should hear the ding sound of hardware connecting.
If it is connecting to the PC and is not detected by the software than it is likely a permissions problem. Right click the software icon and choose run as administrator.
If it is not detected by the PC than check your usb cable and make sure your zune is charged and not frozen.

i plug in my zune to my computer and all i see is barely the red battery sign on the screen. eventually it slowly fades away and it's black screen again.... it was working just fine until it turns off on me
I've already replaced the hard drive & battery 5mos ago. Now it starts up then when I press any button, the screen slowly fades to a blank screen. The backlight sometime is on. But once in a while it will startup again to do the same fading all over again. I've had it work a few times in between fadings.
