Won't turn on.

We just replaced the batteries in my daughter's Leapster L-Max and it will not turn on at all. It does nothing. Please help! I already bought her some Leapster games for Christmas!

Thanks,
Sarah

I have the same problem and would like to fix it rather than buy a new one. We bought the power supply and that does nothing at all. Ours is actually the Lmax. My husband is an Electrical Engineer and did take it apart and was really unable to do anything without the schematics for it. HELP. My three year old is having a melt down.

Brand new leapster turned on & worked initially and after about a half hour had a distorted audio buzzing sound and unit died. New batteries ,no help!

worked fine for 3 years, then dead for no reason. Customer tech support is a joke, they kept telling me to clean the battery contacts, which I did of course. I am an electronic service tech and cannot find a way to reset this thing.

Our leapster will turn on but only with one of the game cartridges. It won't turn on with other games or without a cartridge in it.

left the leapster in the car overnight it was cold (maybe 28 degrees), but not to the point a malfunction should occur.

we also bought the leapster l max and it will not turn on, even with the 3rd set of new batteries - can anybody help - the company won't

New Leapster worked fine for 3 months and then all of a sudden died for no reason. New batteries won't work and neither will charging it with AC Adapter.

My granddaughter has a Leapster L-max and it won't turn on at all. I don't understand why this is happening to alot of people as I have been reading and no help from Leapster is offered. Now that the time has expired for the company to replace what do we do??? My granddaughter (4 years old) cries alot due to this problem. It sure doesn't help when her sister old Leapster works.

I just replaced the batteries in my daughters pink leapster and it won't turn on. I have tried lots of new batteries thinking that the originals were out of juice. Now what?

  • baldface Apr 21, 2009

Same problem with a pink leapster.  I was working just fine, then we replaced the batteries, now it won't come on at all.  It was the first time I've replaced the batteries, and everything inside is clean and I just put some new duracels in it.  Frustrating stuff....

We've had the same problem with our Leapster!! We actually exchanged it twice already. Our batteries are fully charged but it continues to turn off for no apparent reason?? Is there a fix for this?

I am having the same problem with my son's Leapster which he received for Christmas. It worked for a couple of months but will no longer power on. The batteries are non-rechargeable and new.

Maybe they should change their name to CHEAPSTER!  I think the leapfrog stuff used to be of good quality but now...not so much...

Did you try rechargeable batteries or non rechargeable batteries? I had the same problem with the rechargeable batteries and as soon as I tried non rechargeable ones, it worked fine.

I turn on my daughter's Leapster 2. I sign in. I click "Cartridge Game". The screen goes black & then It goes back to the "Leapster 2" screen, followed by the "if you...

You have to make sure that your Cartridges is clean. Try to vacum of blow both of the cartridge hole and also the place where you put the cartridge, Sometime very small tiny dirt will makes that the cartridge cannot be recognise by the console.

Instead of 1 starter game and a few demo game that you get from Leapfrog Connect, you can also get more downloadable games for your Leapster 2. You can get it here:

My daughter's Leapster 2 Handheld game's screen is dark. She cannot see any of her games that she tries to play. I tried using the brightening button, but it doesn't help. Also, have replaced the batteries...

are the batteries you are using the correct size/voltage for the leapster? I believe it takes 4 AA/LR6 size batteries at 1.5V each.
has the product been dropped or bashed?

How do I get the batter cover off a Leapster?!?!?!?!?

OK, after nearly breaking my daughter's leapster I have figured it out.

Use the coin and twist the little screw up. Then with the screw part closest to your chest, SLIDE the cover off AWAY from your chest. The batteries are located on the undercarriage of the cover. It takes "4" AA's

Hope this helps everyone!!!

Leapster not powering on

I have never used the Leapster before, But I researched it a bit and discovered that it uses "AA" Batteries. Were the rechargeable batteries you used before designed for the Leapster or were they older Ni-Cad (Nickel Cadmium) style batteries? Older Ni-Cads put out a slightly higher voltage than standard (1.7v) as opposed to the standard 1.5v. This could possibly cause problems. If you have only had it for a few months than it should be warranty protected. Hope this helps. Cheers!
