I though I had a faulty unit so I exchanged for another of the same model... same problem. Unit locks up as if the protection circuitry has been activated. Checked troubleshooting, my difinitive tech. speakers (3 total.. 2 front(studiomoniter350 and a sub (super cube)) are hooked up correctly, no wires are touching, tried both impedence options. Tried different speaker wires, have a nice surge protecter.. I can get it to have sound but its locked and If I press any button it locks.... Somebody help me I'm losing my mind!

NOTE: The remote control cannot be used during the reset procedure. All necessary buttons to complete the reset process are located on the front panel of the receiver. 1. Try running the auto setup without the sub. ( is it a powered sub {the sub has its own amp on the back} or is a NON powered sub that is driven off the speaker jacks of the Yamaha receiver. )
If the sub is powered, and connected to the Amp via the RCA cable from the " sub out " jack, chances are you either have a defective sub or a gound loop.
Good luck...Rob

that is actually a sign that the reciever is bad. it usually means the amp is blown. Not in the sense that it wont work. But its overheating and thats where the problem lies. for this recieve it only costs 130 for the pcb board that goes bad. I know no one likes to hear that there stuff is broken. But when i worked for Square Trade i seen a few dozen of these units come through and it was always the amp which can still be serviced by yamaha. -Thanks Nate

Most likely you have pressed the speaker AB switch, try pressing it again and see if it works.

I'm so glad (not glad) to see this problem posted. Unit locks up at least once every day. Have not discovered any consistent trigger for this to occur. If it is a flaw that exchanging unit will correct that is a hassle, but at least a solution. For now, I simply unplug and plug back in. Anyone find a cure?
