Engine has less than 75 hours came withColeman Powermate generator 6 years old.I start it up normal, switch on choke full 2 pulls starts right up run it a minuet runs well then bring choke down slowly and it wants to cut out.Leaving choke fully closed engine still runs well even under a load
SOURCE: I have a 5.5 Vertical Briggs and Stratton about 6
If the generator was used during these 6 years continuously on full or near full load, it may have loosed compression (and derated load).
If you can measure the pump current and compare with the rated of the generator it should be less than the half of the rated to run properly in continuous mode. If it is greater than 75% it may be more than the possible for this generator.
Nevertheless the new fine oil, the overheating or lowering of the oil level during operation may be the reason for stopping.
SOURCE: became very hard to start
Check oil level.IIs it overfull? or does have gasoline in the oil? IF the fuel bowl float sticks, and allows fuel to flow, it will leak past the rings, and into the crankcase and once it is full, there is no place for it to go when the piston lowers in the cylinder. If so drain oil, and refill to proper level. If it starts fine now , repair carb and or add fuel shut off valve.
SOURCE: I have Poulan tiller with Briggs & Stratton
you have a gloged carb try takeing it off and blowing out the carb with a compressor
take the bowl apart its on the bottom of the carb you will find a float and needle seet
blow all of that clear and make sure the fuel line is clear
hope this helps you

SOURCE: I recently freed a seized engine by spraying wd 40
This issue sounds like gummed up fuel strainers, or jets. you would need to open up and clean the carb.
SOURCE: Started engine prior to hurricane season . It
If it only ran good with choke then that means the engine is running too lean and not getting enough fuel. You need to remove, fully disassemble, and thoroughly clean the carb. Or you could also just install a brand new carb if you don't have experience working on carburetors.
