What PC? it has full model name, CQ56-1000? or?
what OS? we can not guess and OS ever. Opt. syst.
what are the full symptoms?
from step 1.
I turn on the PC and this fails. or what?

if the PC runs ok say so then say what updates you want
the list of updates are like infinity,
for Windows 7 its over 350!@ deep

solves what problem,????

my wild guess, , is you an not boot into WINDOWS?
XP,VISTA,W7,W8,W10, RIGHT.? name it please./

AND The HP BIOS sees that error and then offers, to do the F11 reload by magic, it offers that. (its and HP magic there)
then recovery starters,up, only works if
'THE HDD is not dead.
THE HDD was not slammed with MICROSOFT disk installs. ever.
only HP disks are allowed , unless a 100 page answer is what you want.?
the correct CD is the HP media kit.
only it works every time. even with a new HDD.

if you see errors on a screen , photo them and post it.
for windows blue screens of the 30 POSSIBLE
we must see it to know what it is.

SOURCE: I cannot enable my wireless adapter

My suggestion would be to uninstall SP1 if the wireless driver update does not work and wait until a later time to reinstall SP1 since it is apparent the problem occurred with the SP1 update. I'm surprised the HP Recovery didn't resolve it - unless it wasn't taken back to to Factory Default - which would be extreme as you would loose all data, software and updates.

SOURCE: windows 98 se, xp not installed to compaq armada E500 pc notebook

First, format the hard drive and make sure it is in FAT or FAT32 for Windows 98 install. Then do your partitioning etc and should work. If it doesn't, it is possibly a hardware fault.

Here is the site for the drivers for the laptop :

Hope this helps in some way :)

I just restarted my HP and now it says there is no hard drive and I dont have a recovery disk

try disconnecting the drive and reseating it first.

If you enter the bios (f10 on startup) does the computer even detect the drive? If not - try reseating it - don't forget to power off first

Failing that try the hp recovery partition
    1
Press the power button to start the HP. Press and hold the F11 key to launch the HP Recovery Manager from the recovery partition.
    2
Backup any files you want to save. Follow the HP Recovery Manager instructions to save any important files before continuing with the recovery process.
    3
Continue the recovery process. After backing up files to an external device or CD/DVDs, select the option to perform a system recovery.
    4
Obtain and install updates for the HP. After your system reboots, use HP update manager as well as Windows update to restore all critical updates to your HP computer.
    5
Make a set of recovery disks. Use HP Recovery Manager and select "Advanced Options" to create a set of recovery disks that can be used in the event that your HP cannot access the hard drive.

Alternately, click Start , All Programs , Recovery Manager , and then Recovery Manager . Allow the action to continue, if prompted. The HP Recovery Manager opens.

The recovery process may take up to several hours and will return the PC to its original condition. Any custom settings, drivers, software programs and updates, and/or hardware updates are lost and must be reinstalled.
If the PC cannot launch into Windows, it may still be possible to use the HP Recovery Manager on the hard drive to restore the computer to its original operating condition. The Recovery Manager can be launched during the start up process by following the steps below.
    1. Press the Power button to start the PC, and then press the f11 key when the standard BIOS prompts are displayed on the black screen. NOTE: Pressing the f11 key during the startup on a computer with an HP factory image will start the system recovery process even if the prompt is not displayed.
      • If the HP Recovery Manager can access the recovery partition on the hard drive, a prompt to backup the user files before beginning the recovery is displayed. Follow any on-screen instructions.
      • If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix any system errors, you will need to use the personalized recovery disc that you created to recover the hard drive to its original condition.
      • If you have not created the personalized recovery disc, or the discs are corrupted, you can order a replacement recovery disc from HP.
    2. When the Recovery Manager starts, follow the instructions.

When I start my HP Compaq nc6120 I see the message to make back-up. I tried once but without effect. If I update the BIOS this will solve the problem? Give me an advice, please!

If your laptop is new and you have never taken a backup disc, you may receive this alert. The backup disc is to help at times when your hard disk crashes and the recovery partition gets destroyed, you can safely reinstall from the Factory backup disc. And BIOS has no link with this issue. You need not update the BIOS.

Do you know where I can find a recovery disc for an HP 873n Media Center PC? I called hp and they don't have one.

    Hi,
You are correct HP do not provide the recovery disks for this Media Center anymore.

I've just about searched the net for anyone who may have recovery CD's for sale but no no avail.

If you can still get into the operating system use HP Backup and Recovery Manager, its quick and user-friendly. To run, simply go to All Programs > HP Backup & Recovery > HP Backup and Recovery Manager. With HP Backup & Recovery Manager, file restoration is easy. To recover a deleted file, simply use the Restore Wizard.

For a full system restoration, press the F11 key during boot up and then select "Recover PC" from the menu if there is a recovery partition available (sometimes you have to hold down Ctrl and hit the F11 key on boot up)

Other than that you may have to purchase a Windows XP or Windows XP Media Center installation CD from a reputable store like PC World for example.

    Good luck.
