My Compaq Presario 1200US keeps saying that there is no operating system, I try to download Windows ME from my backup disk and it keeps saying

Sadly the disk is corrupt, buy a new hard drive and get the data off the old one.

1.The first option is you can try to restore it from F11 the hard drive partition...Shut down the comp and then restart it and keep tapping the F11 until you get a screen that says Recovery manager...
2.select the system recovery option if available...click on next...
3.choose whether you want to backup or do recovery without the backup...click on next...
4.Unplugg all external devices apart from keyboard mouse power cable and monitor...
5.then click on the next button...the recovery will start...
6.If this option is not available...disk's are the only option...

if ur system came with vista pre - loaded originally when u bought and ur hard disk is still original then u can try this easy and fast operation to restore ur OS to factory default state

Compaq/HP: When you first turn on the laptop and see the Compaq/HP logo screen, press the F11 key (you need to do this before the Compaq/HP logo disappears). and then simply follow the instructions for installation of OS

if u dont have original hard disk then u have the option of restoring ur OS thru backup Disk u got if u dont have the backup disk then u can order one thru www.compaq.com website , go and chat with online expert at compaq and they can assist u in this backup disk they can mail u on ur request

It appears that the hard disk drive is not being seen in the Bios. Ensure that both the power and data cables are connected to the drive and the controller. try booting again.

vista have scanning program already installed.
choose start->all program "Windows Fax and Scanning"
This feature works only with Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Business, and Windows Vista Enterprise.

If you have the original Windows operating system boot disk or can get one via download, try booting off that. If the computer then runs OK, you will need to attempt to format the hard drive.

on startup go into bios and select default values and then save and exit then restart.
at the very least we want to see a message saying no operating system found then you can install os.(hd detected)

buy or download a windows disk. insert it and format the partition and install a fresh copy
