Generally answer machines don't answer more than 1 line , you would need 2 machines f 1 for each line

Our AT&T 1725 has quit recognizing when the phone is ringing. The phone keeps own ringing instead of beign answered.

There are a couple of things to try. First is to check the cable & plug that connect the 1725 to the telephone line. Disconnect the phone line from the back of the answering machine, plug it into a known working telephone, using cell phone (or another land line) call the phone number and see if the phone rings.

If it doesn't, replace the line cord and try again.

If it does ring, check the optioning to make sure it is set for, say 2 rings.

Also, is the telephone line a regular telephone company POTS line or is it one that is being provided by a cable modem? If your phone service is being provided by a cable company, the media converter might not be putting out enough voltage for the answering machine to realize that the line is ringing.

If everything is correct, replace the answering machine.

Need to set up phone/fax instead of just fax

I have a HP Officejet J6480 All-In-One and needed the answering machine and fax to be on at the same time.  I called the help line at HP and they said I needed another phone line into the home but I tried this and it worked.
First I got a different phone number for the fax machine - they do this for no charge at my phone company. This is not another physical line into the home - it is just another phone number with a different ring - it rings 2 fast rings for the fax machine instead of the phones regular one ring. I set the answering machine built into the phone to pick up after 4 rings and I set the fax machine to pick up on 2 rings. Be sure to set it so the fax pick up number of rings are less than the answering machine pick up number of rings.  It worked for me. Hope this works for you too.

Need to connect phone and fax machine to one phone jack

You have the wrong adapter probably. Most common types are single line splitters and will not work like you want. They only split line one and 2 gets blocked out as they only have 2 copper connector on the plug centered to get line 1 only. If you want to use an adapter you will need a 2 line splitter like this one:http://www.trianglecables.com/tellinsplitl.html
A simpler solution is to plug your fax into your phone. On top of your phone are multiple jacks labeled L1/L2, L2 only or L2/data. Plug your phone into the wall using the L1/L2 jack then plug your fax into the L2 jack and this will work fine and still allow you use of line 2 on your phone. If you don't want to hear the ring then set your fax machine to auto answer. Hope this helps you.

My new Uniden Phone/Answer machine is loading down my fax line

I have searched the user manual and can find no help on this matter, although there are help numbers listed and I'm sure they can advise, here is the link to the main page and there is a link to a pdf manual download if you don't already have one http://www.uniden.com/products/productdetail.cfm?product=TRU8885-2

However, it may be that you could use a T adaptor or socket doubler on the line jack and plug both in. good luck !
