Hi, I have lots of tapes I filmed using another Sony camcorder (unfortunately I can recall the model)... since I bought this new Sony TVR228e I haven't been able to play any of my old tapes. The camcorder records properly in a new tape and plays it normally, but if I insert one of my old tapes all I get is a blue screen and a buzzing noise although the counter runs as if it was reading the tape The menu doesn't offer a possible configuration to change the way (format) in which the camcorder reads tapes. please, could anyone help me with this problem? or is just not possible to play different tapes in different camcorders (even when is the same type of tape for both). thanks a lot!
Fidus, I am not sure where you are located but the camcorder you're trying to use now is a PAL version of Sony's 8mm camcorder. If the tapes you recorded earlier were recorded in D8 (digital 8) or 8mm/Hi8 format NTSC, they will not play correctly in this unit. The NTSC and PAL formats are different and not compatible. Hope this helps you. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org

I am in the UK, and I know the format for this camcorder is PAL; that's what makes it a problem!, since my previous camcorder was a PAL format aswell.... very weird stuff I have to say...
there's no way to change formats anyway in the sony 228e...
thank you for your interest and your response Joe0700, I really appreciated it.
