How do I know if my Motorola CP185 is UHF or VHF without taking it to a dealer for programming?

Just curious as to if there is a way to tell by the serial number or any other information I can gather by just looking at it? I bought one off EBay, and without thinking didn't realize that the seller did not state which band it is on. Thank you!

CP185 AAH03RDF8AA7AN The "R" equal to UHF Radio
CP185 AAH03KDF8AA7AN The "K" equal to VHF Radio

The model number tells you what Frequency band the radio is in.
Hope this helps

Hi christo,

Yes the serial No. usually indicates the frequency band the radio works on, but not always, because a lot of radios nowadays can operate on both VHF & UHF, so not being familiar with your model, I can't give you a definitive answer.

I do have the feeling, for what it's worth, that it is in fact a UHF band radio, but don't take that as gospel.

Anyone else reading this post is most welcome to assist in helping a friend out, we would much appreciate your input, thanks.

Hang in there my friend, there will be an answer soon.

Cheers, Peter

I'll look into it further as well....

SOURCE: how can i tell if i have a UHF radio or VHF radio

You can use the model number to tell if you are VHF or UHF. You will still need to know the frequency(s) and PL code(s) your radios have to get radios to match.

VHF model number starts with P93.
UHF model number starts with P94.

The current replacement radio for the SP50 is the CP200. It is construction grade and was made to replace the SP50. There are other radios which will also match the SP50 including (but not limited to) the BPR40 and the new CP185.

My Cp200 can't connect to my new Motorola Talkabout T5720 (7 Channels) 2-Way Radio, need HELP

The CP200 is a dealer programmable radio which was available in UHF or VHF. You would need the UHF model to match. Then the radio itself would need programmed to the same frequencies as the T5720. This requires Motorola proprietary software, cable and radio interface box (RIB). Your best option would be stopping by your nearest dealer to have it programmed.

How do I connect Motorola CP185 two-way radios?

Yes, they must be programmed by a dealer to match your existing radios. Hopefully you purchased the same frequency band: VHF or UHF. I f they do not match that, they cannot be programmed to match. I don't know of a single 2 way dealer who would let those go out of their store without programming. Since you bought them elsewhere, another warning is they must be approved for the country you intend to use them in. You may be better off returning them and starting over. Many dealers, such as our store include programming at no cost when purchased from us. Call around to get some prices.

DECODING MODEL NUMBER/FREQUENCY RANGE

This is the model number for a UHF Motorola CP185. Specifically, 16-Channel, 4W Model 435-480 MHz. The only way to determine the frequencies programmed into the radio is to have the radio read-out by an authorized Motorola dealer or other entity with a subscription to the software, as well as, a radio interface box (RIB) and appropriate cable.

Have two bpr40 need to find out the frequencys

The BPR40 is a dealer programmable radio. The frequencies would need to be read out using Motorola proprietary software. The only thing you can tell from looking at the radio is whether it is VHF or UHF. Model number AAH84K... is VHF and AAH84R... is UHF.

I have a GP328 4channel hand held can it be reconfigured to be used as an ordinary uhf two way

It should be capable of being programmed to a "simplex" frequency where you can use the radio simply radio-to-radio. This is a dealer programmable style radio. You would need to visit your local Motorola dealer to have it programmed. As for whether it will do "ordinary UHF", the radio would have to be UHF. This style radio was produced in both VHF and UHF. Your dealer would be able to advise you on which one you have.

Best regards.

Programing Motorola HT1000

The HT1000 is a dealer programmable unit. The DTMF keypad on the front of the unit would be nonfunctional unless you were using it in conjunction with a repeater system which allows for DTMF phone capabilities. Otherwise it is just an extra place for dust, dirt and moisture to get in the radio. If you are working as a firefighter, it is highly recommended you get a holster to cover the front of the radio to prevent moisture from getting to the component board through the keypad area. As for telling if the radio is VHF or UHF, typically the 4th digit of the model number will tell you. If it is an R it is UHF; if it is a K it is VHF. Motorola Radius CM 300

The CM300 is programmable using Motorola propietary software, cable and RIB (radio interface box). The software is primarily available to Motorola dealers. The easiest way to have the radio programmed is to take or send your mobile radio to a dealer. Typically programming is around $25 for this unit.

If you provide the model number, it would be possible to give you more information about your radio. It can be VHF or UHF, 25, 40 or 45 watt. You could also google the model number. The model number begins with AAM50...
