I would like to be able to copy my video cassettes onto my pc. I have got the firewire cable, but I don't know what to do next as there aren't any instructions in the manual. The reason I want to do this is that I don't have a recordable dvd player and I would like to put my cassette footage onto dvds. Can you please help me and provided me with detailed instructions as I'm no the best when it comes to technology. For example, do I need specific software to do this (as the software that came with the video camera cannot be used)? If so, can I download it for free? Thank you so much.

To get your footage into the computer from DV tape you need a four pin firewire (IEEE1493 or iLink) cable from the camera to a six pin cable into the computer. USB will not do a proper job, it's for downloding photos or as you already mentioned, Web caming.
