Kenmore radiant range burners won't heat on low

What is the model number (including the prefix) for your Kenmore range? The prefix indicates the actual manufacturer of the range.

None of the ranges that I am familiar with use P in any of the error codes. F5 indicates a problem with the control board (electronic oven control) for both Whirlpool and Frigidaire ranges. Most other ranges use 4 character error codes.

Does the element have continuity? if so, it will be the element switch that needs replacement... Generally, the radiant element will be held on by two screws and a steel plate, note the wiring before removing the old part. Hello. I looked carefully at the service manual for your unit--surprisingly, there is no thermal switch inline with the bake/broil elements. Usually, if the bake or broil elements pop, this blows out the thermal switch, killing power to the elements for safety. The main control board can get damaged due to the high current draw during a short-circuit. The part number for the main board is WB27T10008. The overlay(the decorative sticker with the button/names on it) numbers are as follows: almond WB27T10022, black WB27T10023, and white WB27T10021. I hope this helps you!

Most likely the switch for that burner needs replacing

Sounds like the switch for that burner needs to be replaced. Its possible that something else may be shorting out but usually its just the switch. Your ranges burners and switches are standard switches and burners for this type of range so the switch should fix it. Hope that helps.

If you are referring to the bakelight material, this is an insulating compound and the burner still may work. I would not use this long term in this manner however. This material insulates as well as helping maintain an even heat transfer of the burner. Long term use, may cause damage to the cooktop. The burners are replaceable, but the prices vary depending on the size of the burner. The part numbers are as follows:

This IS something you can fix

There are three likely causes, in most common occurence
there are fuses in the rear control console that blow
the socket does wear and require replacement
the temperature controller wires come loose, or the control fails.

check first for fuses
second swap the cables from the controller of the burner that doesnt work, to another controller to test if it is the controller or the socket.

• swap cables with power disconnected and do NOT leave bare cables unsecured even while testing, better a live repairer, than a live wire

if the burner then works the controller is dead
if the burner still does not work, the socket is dead

the local parts store, or even a hardware store, will have the parts, even if branded frigidaire or ge or generic instead of kenmore, (Sears service is expensive and slow) many models of stove use the same socket, element, controller, clock, circuit board

turning frot burner on sparked and now all 4 burners don't work any more

shogan, Most likely, the problem is with the circuit breaker. It became too weak for regular load. Replace the circuit breaker and I believe it will solve the problem. Gendos....post back
