Netopia router test page keeps poping up while i'm on line

Is there any computer online using the router.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.

You can do it manually without the CD.
MAke sure that your computer is able to go online
through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the
modem
Then you need to connect the computer to the router
ad the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the
settings of the router according to the ISP.

Reset your netopia by holding the reset button in for at least 30 seconds.

Reconfig your netopia again.

You do this by opening internet explorer. It will say "Page cannnot be displayed"
type 192 168.1 254 in the address bar (where you normally type www)
the username is admin
the password is the serial number on the bottom of the netopia
click on configure
click on quickstart
put in your userID like [email protected]
and your password
click submit at the bottom
and then click the yellow triangle dealie at the top right
click save and restart the database
when it comes back on in a few minutes, you'll be online

If this doesnt resove the issue, then your firmware is messed up and its time to swap out the netopia.

You get an ethernet cable, its usually bright yellow or blue, and connect one end into the netopia where it says 1, 2, 3 or 4 (these are your 4 ports, you can hook up to 4 computers individually from here).

Put the DSL line into where it says DSL in the back and make sure you have a filter on the phone line, and any other phone or fax line in the house thats on that same number.

Make sure the power is plugged in and turn it on.

The lights blink for a few minutes until the router, the netopia, syncronizes.

You can access the router by opening internet explorer. It will say page cannot be displayed. Go up to the address bar where you type www stuff and type 192.168.1.254 and hit enter.

You get a little pop up window asking you for username and password. The username is admin. The password is the serial number off the bottom on the netopia.

Once you're in, click on configure at the top, then quickstart.

Put in your user id like [email protected] and your password to your member ID.

click submit at the bottom, then the yellow triangle dealie at the top right. Then click on save and restart the database. When you get the pop up window again, it means you can sign in or just go to yahoo to see of you're online, you should be online.

go to your network status on your computer and see what your default gateway address is, that should be the address of your router.

If you got the netopia in anyone of the 13 states that ATT controls, then that netopia will work in any other state, not just the phone number it was attached to. We are implementing technology now that it will be phone specific, but most people dont have that installed yet.

All you have to do is reset the netopia, open a browser, type 192.168.1.254 and set it up with the new username and password you created when you got your new DSL service.

the cable modem should be giving the netopia an ip address

go inside the netopia by opening Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.254

a little window will pop open

the username is admin, the password is the serial number on the bottom of the netopia

once in, click on configure, lan, then wireless at the bottom

make sure the wireless box is checked

name your network (SSID its called) like randy578

then click advanced if you want to enable wireless security encryption, your key to get online securely

click submit underneath it

clike the yellow triangle up at the top right

click save and restart

in like 2-3 minutes, click the wireless connection icon by your clock

connect to randy578 network

you should now be online

I believe the WLAN key can be found at your router's set-up page or web ui. Do you know how to access it? If Not, then try to access this link and hopefully this will help you to find it..

Firstly... avoid showing your SSID (eircom-123456789) here, as the WEP key can be reverse engineered from the SSID.

To change your SSID, connect your router to your PC with an ethernet cable, go to your web browser (Intenet Explorer, Forefox, etc) and type 192.168.1.254, and press return.

This will open the control panel for the router.
Select 'EXPERT MODE' from the menu on the right, and accept the warning prompt. Then click on 'CONNECTION' and the 'WIRELESS' on the menu on the right.

In the main window you can then change the SSID for your network.

You can also change some of the other options in this window such as enabling closed mode, change security protocol, password, etc.
