this will usually happen if you're disconnecting the USB cable from the computer and putting it back on a different USB ports. try to connect it to where it was working before. this is also true for other USB devices such as scanners and webcams

hello.. try to unplug the power cord and usb cord and replug again and also chick the inside part of your printer maybe have a paper jump or ashes due to saying of of paper or try to remove the printer driver software how to remove? go to control panel and click the name (ad and remove program )and you can see the currently install files find your printer driver bellow the currently install files and remove it and install again..........thank you hope i can help you.. have a good day

Populate the destination list You must populate the destination list in HP Solution Center for the Scan To function to work. Follow these steps to populate the destination list.
NOTE: HP Solution Center is the software that came with the product. You must make sure the software is installed on the computer for all the product functions to work correctly. The software is also necessary for completing this procedure. Install HP Solution Center if it is not already installed.

1. On the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center . HP Solution Center opens.
2. Click Scan Settings .
3. Click Scan to... Setup .
   NOTE: It might take several minutes for the list to populate. If the appropriate programs are already listed as scan destinations, discontinue this procedure. You must reinstall the software.
4. Click each program to include on the Scan To Destination list. Figure 2: Add destinations
5. Click the Add arrow. The program listing moves from the left side of the screen to the right.

You do it through the software on your PC. HP has user software that you installed when you set up the printer. There is usually a setting for color/BW there. Otherwise use the printer properties settings.

In Windows 98/ME/2000:

1. Go to START, SETTINGS, PRINTERS.

2. RIGHT CLICK on your Epson printer name; left click on PROPERTIES.(PRINTING PREFERENCES in Windows 2000).

3. Go to the MAIN tab.

4. Place a check beside BLACK INK ONLY.

5. Click APPLY then OK.

In Windows XP:

1. Go to START, CONTROL PANEL, PRINTERS AND OTHER HARDWARE or PRINTERS AND FAXES. (Select VIEW INSTALLED PRINTERS under PRINTER TASKS if no printers appear).

2. RIGHT CLICK on your Epson printer name; left click PRINTING PREFERENCES.

3. On the MAIN tab.

4. Place a check beside BLACK INK ONLY.

5. Click OK.

Remember to repeat these instructions and remove the check from BLACK INK ONLY when printing photos or color images.
