Why does the fan on my Sharp Carosel II microwave continue to run? Model R-8560

Opening and closing the door has no effect on the fan shutting off. The only way to stop the fan from running is to unplug it.

All the door switches checkout ok for continuity....i think i may have found the problem. There is a temp. resistor sensor which was coated with a tar like substance....i cleaned it off and as of now all seems to be working fine. Thank you for your assistance.

  • Anonymous Jul 10, 2012

after cleaning the sensor it seemed to work fine...(so i thought). After being on for 2 min the fan came on and doesnt shut off untill i unplug it and then goes on when i plug it back in. I am at my wits end.

  • Anonymous Jul 10, 2012

the part that i am calling a sensor is stainless steel about 11/2 inches x 1/2 inch with 2 contacts on top and what looks like a glass resistor.

From the description one of the door switches is defective, if you have a digital meter then I will walk you through the testing phase.

It sounds like you are on the right track, this is where a service manual would be useful in providing more information.

SOURCE: My microwave continues to run, (turntable and exhaust), when the door is opened.

all microwaves have 2 safety switches at least... but these are tied to a set of relays that turn it on, my bet is a sticking or stuck relay because you unplug it right and plug back in its not running?-relay ... if always runs driver transitors.

SOURCE: Sharp microwave runs when door closed

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or sometimes a problem on the control panel.

I would suspect the door switch mount has a broken tab allowing the switch to swing down when the door is closed, not allowing it to really be activated.

Also, even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

SOURCE: Sharp Carousel Microwave door latch stopped working door won't stay closed

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We also have this full service manual at our site: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1480_R1481_R1482_sm.pdf

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

Our GE PROFILE JVM3670SK02 microwave stopped working. When you turn it on it only works for approx 30 sec and shuts off and the clock works but doesn't hold real time. Do you know what I need to do?

I have the same model and my problem is that after I cook something and clsoe the door, the microwave stays on, carosel not turning fan is blowing and light is on. Repairman told me that I am not closing the door correctly and that is the problem. He tshowed me how the door is not solid and you can close the bototm part of the door (latching it) but not the top and that is why it is staying on. I say it is a manufacturer's design defect. He charged me the $99.95 service charge. What a rip off.

Roper Microwave fan won't shut off

THE FAN AND MICROWAVE TUBE RUN OFF THE ELECTRONIC TIMER. OPENING THE DOOR SHOULD SHUT IT ALL DOWN AND WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR AGAIN YOU SHOULD NEED TO PRESS THE START BUTTON AGAIN. IF NOT, ITS SOUNDS LIKE AN ELECTRONIC RELAY IS LOCKED CLOSED ON THE TIMER BOARD.

Model R-1460, when I shut the door it runs but doesn't heat up. What needs to be done to fix it?

Do you mean that when you close the door, the fan comes on? If so, it sounds like a bad door switch. Probably the secondary interlock switch.
This failure is caused by opening the door when the unit is in cook mode. On ALL microwaves, not just one or two brands.......
Be sure to push the stop button before opening the door to add or stir... Or wait for the cook cycle to end. (This is why microwaves have a two step function on the stop/clear button. Hit stop once to stop cook mode and twice to reset timer).
You should use an ohm meter to check all 3 switches. The switch can be either stuck 'closed' or physically closed but not 'making' electrically.

Sharp model R-1870 Carosel quits cooking at 59 seconds

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, most likely the switch, but it may also be the motor or the damper door.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample photo for a typical damper assembly.

Clock works but No carosel turning or heat to microwave. Model R-1501 sharp

This is probably a bad bottom door switch or its mount is broken or misaligned.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount (which are pretty simple problems to fix) or occasionally a problem on the control panel.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.
