Opening and closing the door has no effect on the fan shutting off. The only way to stop the fan from running is to unplug it.

door switches or control circuit, may be loose contact or open check all wiring and circuit...
SOURCE: My microwave continues to run, (turntable and exhaust), when the door is opened.
all microwaves have 2 safety switches at least... but these are tied to a set of relays that turn it on, my bet is a sticking or stuck relay because you unplug it right and plug back in its not running?-relay ... if always runs driver transitors.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or sometimes a problem on the control panel.
I would suspect the door switch mount has a broken tab allowing the switch to swing down when the door is closed, not allowing it to really be activated.
Also, even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.
Switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.
If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.
The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

the fan shuts off only when the oven is unplugged. When i plug it back in the fan starts running immediately.
Opening and closing the door has no effect on it....it keeps running.Any positive help is appreciated.
All the door switches checkout ok for continuity....i think i may have found the problem. There is a temp. resistor sensor which was coated with a tar like substance....i cleaned it off and as of now all seems to be working fine. Thank you for your assistance.
after cleaning the sensor it seemed to work fine...(so i thought). After being on for 2 min the fan came on and doesnt shut off untill i unplug it and then goes on when i plug it back in. I am at my wits end.
the part that i am calling a sensor is stainless steel about 11/2 inches x 1/2 inch with 2 contacts on top and what looks like a glass resistor.
