Here is the link to the manual for the w7 - they suggest a replacement wick filter would solve the problem due to bacteria or mineral build up - i would expect this to solve your problem as the only way these wicks can not soak up the water to the top is if they are clogged or the tank is empty. try the cleaning routine on page 9 first - might be enough but the wicks probably will need replacing soon anyway. http://www.bionaire.com/manuals/W7_English.pdf Hope this helps :)

Wont run in unit lift out and lift level control works fine put it back in unit [ very tight fit] lift level control wont work

Hello.

The GE humidifier adds a continuous stream of cool mist intothe air, giving moisture to dry air due to cold weather or dry climate or tohelp those who desire additional moisture because of respiratory problems orallergies. Sold online and in many department or home retail stores, thehumidifier requires regular cleaning and maintenance for proper functioning andto help keep mineral scale or bacteria from growing in the humidifier. ·1 Connect the power cord on the GE humidifier firmly to a power outlet if thehumidifier is not working. Replace or reset the circuit breaker as necessary.Turn the power switch to "On" if there is power but the unit is notoperating. · 2 Fill thewater tank to the "Fill" mark if the mist output is low or notpresent. Wait 15 minutes after filling the tank and before starting thehumidifier to allow the wick filter to absorb the water for proper function.Turn the humidistat knob to a higher setting for higher output. · 3 Check the capon the water tank and close the cap firmly. Check the rubber tank cap ring onthe cap and reseat firmly to help provide a better seal. · 4 Replace thewick filter with a new wick filter, available through General Electric, if thewick filter inside the base turns brown. Replacement parts may be ordered bycalling 877-207-0923. · 5 Clean thewater tank with vinegar and a soft brush if the water begins to get cloudy.Rinse well before refilling with water. Use cold water in the tank, as warm orhot water may make the water appear cloudy. · 6 Loosen thetank cap slightly if the humidifier cycles on and off unexpectedly. Turn theknob to a higher or lower setting. Thanks.

Model RCM-832. On/off switch works, blows air but no moisture seems to come out. I left it on for at least one day and the water level in the tank remained the same.

First check humid-stat setting make sure that the room is not above setting. Second check that float(water level) switch is being made. Hope that helps

The humidifier appears to be working (with sound ) but is not collecting any water-cleaned the filter and still the same -the lit up area where it usually has the numbers is sitting at P2- I have lost the...

Alison -

A humidifier will not collect any water. A humidifier has a tank that you fill with water. The water is released / forced into dry air to make it moist, usually by a fan or ultrasonic method.

A dehumidifier has an empty tank that gets filled by the appliance extracting moisture from the air. The tank will have to be manually emptied periodically, otherwise the safety / water level switch will shut the unit off so that the tank doesn't over flow.

I suspect that you meant to say dehumidifier.. and if so, please provide the manufacturer's name and model. The "P2" indication will be difficult to interpret without knowing the manufacturer's info.

Not adding moisture to the air

Have you cleaned the unit lately? The following is from the owners manual.
1. Turn the humidifier ‘OFF’ and unplug the unit.
2. Lift the main housing and remove the water dispersion tray and the PermaWick™ Filters. The motor is attached to the main housing. Do not place the motor near water. Do not use a wet towel on the motor or motor housing as electrical shock may occur.
3. The PermaWick™ Filter should be cleaned in a vinegar and water solution to remove any mineral buildup. Place in a solution of one (1) gallon of water and eight (8) ounces of undiluted white vinegar. Allow the filter to soak for 20 minutes.
4. After soaking, rinse it several times with clean water. Place the PermaWick™ Filter in a location where it can drip dry while you clean the other parts of your humidifier.
5. Remove the water tank from the base and empty any water that is left in the tank. Soak the base in a mixture of one (1) gallon of water and eight (8) ounces of vinegar for 20 minutes.
6. After soaking, wipe the base with a soft cloth or sponge to remove any mineral build up. Rinse with clean water several times. If you are planning on storing the humidifier, be sure the base is completely dry.
7. Fill the water tank with one (1) gallon of water and eight ounces of undiluted white vinegar. Replace the tank cap and shake the tank vigorously until all interior surfaces of the tank have been exposed to the water/vinegar mixture.
8. Empty the tank of the water/vinegar mixture. Rinse it several times with clean water and then replace the tank cap. If you are planning on storing the humidifier, dry it inside and out, leaving the cap off to allow the tank to completely dry. Continue to clean the other parts of your humidifier.
9. Remove the water diffuser cap by squeezing the two tabs as shown in Figure 3. Rinse the cap in clean water to remove any debris. If the cap contains hard water residue, soak it in a mixture of one (1) quart of water and two (2) ounces of vinegar for 20 minutes. 41553-01 01/03/2008 6 © 2008 Hunter Fan Company
Rinse well and reinstall the water diffuser cap. Do not expose motor or other electrical components to water.
10. Wipe the surfaces of the main housing with a soft cloth.
11. Once all the parts are clean, reassemble the humidifier, and follow the USING YOURHUMIDIFIERto continue use. If you are storing the humidifier, make sure the parts are completely dry, reassemble, and store in a dry location

Humidifier not collecting water

To both, these sound like de-humidifiers. Is your goal to reduce humidity and dry your room?

If so, if the humidity is low, then the de-humidifier has no work to do. A cheap battery or dial humidistat will help.

If not, check for a clogged filter. No air moving spells no de-humidification.

Also check for a frozen evaporator coil. Same as above but this requires repairs.

Electric dehumidifiers are similar to refrigerators and window AC's. With the fan running, adjust the setting to a lower humidity setting until you hear the compressor kick in. If it does not even at the lowest setting, check the space relative humidity to make sure it has work to do. If it does, repairs may be as simple as cleaning electric contacts in controls or as bad as a refrigerant leak or compressor failure. If its bad, better to replace.

A humidifier adds moisture. If you have a humidifier and want to keep the static off your clothes and keep your nose from drying out, fill the tanks with water and add biocide.

Please do not view my comments as patronizing. Even seasoned engineers have difficulty grasping humidification.

Fan is running but humidity is not changing

Q: My unit has been running for several hours. I hear the fan spinning, but I do not notice the water level in the tank decreasing.
A:
First, check the filter to ensure it is wet. If the pad appears dry, remove it from the Base and gently rinse under cool water. Reposition wet filter in the Base. You may also want to note the current moisture level in your home. If the humidity level is over 60% the unit will not put out much moisture
as your air is already saturated.

4b54ac1.jpg Comment by Soulvisitor, posted on Jan 20, 2008 If water level in tank is dropping and fan runs then I'd say it is working.

OK?
Comment by Soulvisitor, posted on Jan 20, 2008 Q: I hear the fan turning, but I don’t see any mist. Is my humidifier operating properly?
A:
Dry air is pulled through the system and a fan disperses invisible, moisture balanced air. There is no
“mist” emitted. When operating normally you will feel only cool air coming from the unit. Monitor the
water level in your Tank/ Base. If you notice a decrease in the Water Tank over 24 hours then the unit
is operating normally.
