The ice tray in my LG fridge usually turn sideway to dump off the ice into the ice bin when ice is ready and then water is filled into the tray again. The problem is the ice tray remain in the bent position rather than retract itself into the horizontal posisition after dumping off all the ice. It looks as if the tray is stuck twisted sideway on one end and stay horizontal on the other end. This caused water to spray over into the ice bin and sometime all over the other part of the freezer compartment. The bottom of the ice bin is frozen stiff and I have to thaw out the tray everyday. Is there something to look for in the ice tray to fix this? how does it actually work? Thanks in advance.
I had the same problem. I did the following and it now works great. The ice tray has a square tab on the rear leftside. As the tray rotates to dump the ice, the tab runs on a curved section of the the ice maker frame. The curved section becomes rough with use and causes the tray to stick when it is returning to the fill position. I carefully sanded the curved section of the frame to smooth it out. No problems since.
One does have to dismantle the ice maker to effect this repair.
I am an attorney near Philadelphia who is considering initiating a class action against LG related to the defective design of their ice maker. I have clients in different states who have had problems that LG fixed, but the problems re-occurred after the warranty expired. I've been advised by mechanics that leaks are inevitable based on the design. Apparently this is a design that LG had used years ago but had discontinued for a while because of leak problems. I'm usually on the defense side of product liability cases, but this seems to be a common defect. If you are interesed in such a suit, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. I had this same problem. After seeing the modified ice tray that's available, it dawned on me to cut a plastic credit card (or similar material) in half and adhere it with epoxy to the inside of the ice tray to mimic the raised edge of the new tray. No more clumped ice or water spilling down into the bottom portion of the freezer! I did remove the ice maker to add the modification, but I think it could be done in place. Just ensure that the adhesive is dry before turning the system on again.
Where can i get the new tray with the spill lip on it so the water stays in the tray. Part #3390JA1150A
There is a new tray out, it might solve the problem.

I have the same problem. The ice tray becomes twisted and water spills down the inside the freezer and some into the ice bin. What can we do?
Same here...it stinks. This thing wasn't cheap
I occasioanally have the issue of the tray getting stuck twisting and torqued. After some experimenting the solution is pretty simple. The left hand side has a rectangle tab that drives the tray to dump ice and the right hand side is has a round tab that simply lets the tray rotate. By pressing the tray to the right or left you can separate either the rectangle tab on the left or round tab on the right from the ice tray. Once separated, It releases the torque and twisted tray. Simply reinsert the same way you removed it by separateing the acttachement area to reinsert the rectangle tab on the left and round tab on the right. It almost feels like you'll break the attachment but it flexes enogh to take apart and reinsert. There is no need to remove screws. Just remove the Ice storag bin and it exposes the tray.
The ice bin turns a little bit then goes back to normal position there is ice in the bin It seams like it is not going thru the cycle the bin does not turn fully to dump the cubes
