I have a big black box on my STV2763 Orion TV screen and the answer I got was to turn closed captioning off. I can't find this to turn off. How do I get to closed captioning on the TV?
You will need the original remote. The TV/CAP/TEXT button turns it on and off. The CH.1/2 button switches between channel 1 and 2 of the closed captioning.

No. There is no code for too turm closed captioning ON/OFF. If your remote control have a "CC" button, pressing it once must eliminate closed cption window. If there is no such button, you have to get into TVs menu option to turn it OFF. For more details, refer to TVs' user manual.
Look for a button said Menu on the tv manual bottons on the bottom of the bazel frame of the tv.Push that button.Go into tv menu look for Captioning Functions.Have Closed Captioning CC1,2,3 or TEXT 1,2,3 turn it all off. Will have no more close captioning or black boxes, will pop up on ur tv screen.
u will require the orignal remote for this .but you can try pressing the ----CC----- button on the remote which you have.pointing it towards the tv screen.

try uplugging the tv for a day
if the captioning is still in customer menu
then try to find a universal or replacement remote
this remote may have dedicated captioning key
there may be a button sequence on the front of the tv that will reset the customer settings
