When the door is closed, the turntable does not turn. But when the door is opened, the turntable starts rotating though a bit slower than when the microwave is heating. Please let me know the solution if anyone has seen this. Thanks!
This is usually caused by a defective door switch, or it may be out of aligment. Since there are a few of them a digital meter is required to troubleshoot the problem area. If you have the equipment I well describe how to test them.
Unplug microwave, remove top, [several screws] the micro switches are located under the keypad control board, some will have red or black buttons on the end, set your meter to ohms, unhook the wire from one side of the switch, some switches will be normaly open or closed, touch test leads on the first switch if normally closed it should read well below .5ohms now open or close the microwave door so button on end is pressed, readings should be infinity or open, which is good, remember the rule of thumb if readings are identical both ways switch is bad and must be replaced.
If the unit is built into the wall, I can't help you since I would need to see it in person, the only practical approach is to have a handyman come in and remove it for you, "someone that knows what they doing"

SOURCE: microwave seems to turn on when door latch is opened
What's happening is you are activating one door switch a little before the other, and that is causing your light, fan, and turntable to come on. The plastic parts are not perfectly rigid, so they flex a little when you press the button, and that causes the lag to be more apparent. Even if you press the door open faster and look really close, you may notice the light, fan, and turntable coming on for a split second. That's perfectly normal. The relay on the control board must also be turned on before it will actually be cooking.

In most cases, it's not actually cooking, but instead the fan, turtable and light may be on. Yet it does need attention.
What this usually means is that you have a shorted door switch or a bad door switch mount.
It's easy to tell if it's actually cooking, just place a cup of water inside and see if it heats.
If so, that could mean a stuck relay on the control board. If so, we repair these for customers nationwide with our guaranteed $39.95 service. Far less than a new board.

SOURCE: Microwave oven does not heat anything
Spacemaker XL 1400 worked for 7 years.Yesterday, no more heat. Also plastic door damaged.
will try Panasonic or something commercial
SOURCE: Microwave won't heat, and turntable doesn't turn
All the parts you mention are very inexpensive, but yours does not have a triac.
It could be the cook relay, but it's more likely to be a switch.
Looking at the schematic, it's probably a bad primary interlock (upper door switch) or maybe its mount is bad.
Even though a door
switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.
Door switch
or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening
the
door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.
There are
plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and
onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.
The screws on these
mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be
activated properly.
Sometimes it's
a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just
out of position. This tab
can be hard to see, since it is under the
bottom edge of the switch.
If you have a broken mount, it's usually more economical and
safer to just add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the
switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

Yes, I have a multi-meter. Please let me know what to look out for. Thanks!
Thanks, John for the instructions. But this unit (built in micro/convection oven GE Profile PT970) is fitted in the wall. The microwave top and bottom are not accessible. How do I remove the top? Can you please let me know. Thanks!
