Kenwood DVR - 7000

Hi I have had the above DVD player/sound surround for 4 years. It has been fine until recently. Sometimes when I play new DVD's on the systems, they freeze at a certain point. When I replay the DVD, they again freeze or jump at exactly the same point. The DVD's are fine as they work on other DVD players. Do you have any suggestions? Cheers

I have an old Zenith Digital Surround System the Receivver is a Model Z763B with a DVD Player/Recorder connected. When I play a DVD or VHS the sound can be heard through the TV and the Sound System,...

I have the same A/V receiver and in my setup there is an audio output (red and white able) coming from DVD player directly into Zenith Z763B. The video from DVD Player goes to TV input (yellow cable).
There might be alternatives to the setup mentioned above but I like to watch movie in a surround sound, rather than output from TV.

DVD player and receiver will not play a dvd in surround sound ?

The dvd player is responsible for reading the surround sound track, and sending it to the receiver. First make sure you are playing the surround sound track on the dvd, many have a stereo track too. Next, try another dvd and see if you can play surround sound on that one. If you can't play surround on ANY dvd I would start looking at the audio connection from dvd to receiver. Are you using an optical cable? Red, white, and yellow RCA cables? Optical will transmit any sound over only one cable, RCA cables need one cable for each channel (LF, C, RF, LR, RR, sub.) If your connections are correct, is the receiver set to play a surround sound track? Is it set in 2 channel mode?

I own a KENWOOD DVR-7000 DVD player. I live in UK and bought the player for 1,200 Singapore dollars. It only plays original fixed DVD regions. Is there any code or fix I can enter so the DVD can read...

The region code is burned in to the firmware of the player. If this is an independent DVD unit for your TV set and not a computer, the firmware for this may be with the main circuit board, and not the drive itself. This is based on the particular design.

If you search around net using search engines, you may be able to find some kind of code or patch that you can enter in to your DVD player. With these types of patches, if they are not factory approved there is no guarantee that they will reliably work, or not cause other types of faults.

Optical input from Sony PS3 Playstation.

Have you tried setting the PS3 on linear PCM output instead of bitstream? The DVR 50 may not say Dolby Digital since the optical cable goes directly from the PS3 to it but you may get the surround channel output you're looking for.

Stopped consistently producing sound

Try plugging and unplugging a pair of headphones. The headphone jack in these receivers are flaky and sometimes think there are headphones hooked up even when there isn't. Full repair would require the headphone jack to be replaced. If you don't use headphones at all, you can take the top cover off and unplug the cable going to the headphone jack board and eliminate the problem that was as well.
