Teac A-7010 take up reel not pulling

I just picked up a Teac A-7010 reel to reel. Everything seems to work, Fast forward, rewind etc. But it won't play. When I hit play the rubber tape guide wheel engages and pulls the tape fine but the take up reel does not move. Both reels appear to be direct motor reels thus no belts. Any help?

How do I get fast forward & rewinds to work on my Teac W450-R dual cassette deck..?

Check the belts, inside the unit you should see a rubber belt which is what pulls the tape fast forward or rewind. Some belts with time get loose and slip, they can also break and fall off which will not let you fast forward or rewind.
Open your cassette player and look where the plastic pulleys are located and check for the belts, they might not be broken at all but very loose and slip on the plastic pulley.

Old Teac A601R not working, when you place a tape in it just stops automatically. Is it worth trying to find out what's wrong or is it to old. When you place in a tape and press play it goes forward then...

The unit can be fixed in the right hands. The auto rewind function might be on but the reel rotation sensor is not seeing it move. Probably needs all new belts.

Just aquired a teac a3440. The unit powers up and reels spin and in fast forward or reverse they work fine. After loading a tape there doesnt seem to be enough power to spin the reels. Please help David

moz-screenshot-1.pngI can give you a figure. Here can be seen the tape transport parts location. This probably will help you fix the problem:

If you need to get a global service manual it can be downloaded via this link, but you need to register your free account before:

I have a sony TC-660 reel to reel player, it had been in great condition, and i love using it. All of a sudden however, the reels will ONLY move in one direction (clockwise for the left, and counter...

In order to maintain tape control and tension the reels always pull lightly in opposite directions during PLAY mode. The capstan moves the tape in the desired direction at a precise speed. If the capstan doesn't engage the tape BETWEEN itself and the pinch roller you'll get the reels battling over control of the tape. Check the tape routing.

The two arrow buttons on either side of the FAST key will play it Forward or Reverse. Combining the FAST key with a direction initiates a fast forward or rewind.
