SOURCE: Waste Toner Full/ Not Install
Behind the little container for the waste toner there is a sensor that senses whether the toner basket is full or not. If the sensor itself is dirty, it can give a false reading. First try cleaning out the area under the container to see if the switch works. Also make sure the container is clean, because the sensor works by sight, so if it looks full because it's dirty, it will give a false reading. I have heard of people disabling that sensor in various ways, but that can get dangerous to the printer. I can't recall the details on that exact model, but I believe there is a diagnostic of some sort that can test that sensor to make sure it works right to begin with.

Remove the left rear side cover waste bottle is in the left rear corner of machine ..make sure to clean the neck of the bottle really good it uses sensor to know when full, if toner deposits stay on neck of bottle it cant see threw it so still thinks it is full, Toner is messy stuff, empty with care, while you are there locate the sensor that looks threw the neck and clean that too. You just saved 100bucks!!
SOURCE: Replace used toner message still on
You have to clean the small clear tape tab on the side of the bottle. The "eye" sees whether or not the bottle is full.
You can remove it, clean it and replace it. Use caution with it. I've actual made new ones using clear packing tap on top of a small piece of clear plating that I cut out to fit on there.
Good luck. Be sure to rate this if it helps.

I have a CLX-2160N and have just emptied my own waste toner container. (Disclaimer: not sure how toxic or environmentally friendly this is).
Emptied carefully and thoroughly (fine dust). Immersed in bowl of warm soapy water, and vigorous shaking to get nice and clean.
Shook all water out well, and dried off as much as possible. Reinstalled. Turned printer back on. Hey presto - seems happy.
