It is a power supply regulator board problem.

Just went thru the same problem with my sony kv-34. There are two IC's on the D circut board located on the left side looking from the rear. If you can solder 18 pin IC's without making a mess it is possible.If you have a friend thats real good with a pencil tip solder device. I recomend putting sockets in where the IC's were as you won't have to worry about overheating stuff next to the IC's.Do a google search: Sony led flashes ad select the second hit in the list.

TRY GETTING A SKY REMOTE THEY ARE PRE-PROGRAMED TO ALL SONY TV'S

is defect

the red light flashing tells you and a service person why the tv will not power up . if you have test equipment to work on electronic equipment then we can move forward if not ,your tv will need parts replaced or board replaced . you dont have a failure that you can change a setting or push a reset button to repair . you will need to get in there with equipment inject signals,look at waveforms ,and check voltages . and know what you are doing with the information you gather ...the other answer you need to send it out for repair .... most repairs on this set will run 100.00-200.00 for common problems .........Please if this answer helped , please rate this 3 or 4 stars . and keep me in the paid answer department . Five blinks means "Video out abnormality detection". Possible problem areas are as follows:

Video out, IC7101, 7201, 7301 and others in C board circuit.
Q510, 516, 524 (A board).

There are actually three C boards, the CR, CG and CB boards. They are attached to the rear of the red, green and blue CRTs, respectively. I wouldnt attempt to repair the set myself. I would solicite the services of an authorized Sony servicenter.

SYMPTOMS
Distorted Video, Partial horizontal size collapsed, pop sound, or high pitch squeal.

RESOLUTION
In very small amount of cases the capacitors listed below MIGHT BE reversed on the A Boards below.
This was found at the factory and corrected but a few boards might have this miss-mount.

Capacitors C450, C616, C632, C638, and C650.
