If you just bought this card, send it to the seller for a replacement. Or you can try to Remove Write Protection from SD Card by yourself.

SOURCE: I have a 4.0 GB

Yes it sounds like the disk is defective and I have seen these bad so its definitely the most likely possibility. Sounds like the switch itself to unlock it is bad. Good luck and thanks for using fixya, please take a moment to rate my solution I hope you fin it fixya appropriate.
Thanks,
Lee

Inserted new sandisk ultraII 2gb into camera. error message, disk locked. unlocked, still error message

Hi!
Does it work with other cards? There's a small switch on the memory card reader inside the camera which tells the camera that the card is locked. Most likely this switch is broken. You can try to point it with needle or something but I'm afraid you will have to give it away for a repair to a local repair shop or Canon service center.

Locked Memory Card

I use a Nikon D300 and have Sandisk Compact Flash memory cards. i ahve not come across this problem but would suggest that you insert the memory card into your camera and reformat the memory card. This should clear any errors in the system BUT IT WILL ALSO WIPE ANY PHOTOGRAPHS YOU AHVE TAKEN when formating the memory card.

First check the memory card to see if the lock tab is in the UNLOCK position. On the top left of the memory card is a slide the moves up and down. The slide should be in the up position for it to be unlocked. A locked memory card could cause the camera to read a CARD PROTECT error message.
If you still receive an error message, verify that you are inserting the card correctly so that the spring locks in as you fully insert it. When performed correctly an Icon will appear in the lower right hand corner of the LCD screen. Also try inserting the card while the camera is on.
The memory card may also need to be formatted through the camera’s settings-- Note: Formatting will delete all files, so be sure to transfer any important files to your computer before doing so
To Format: Insert the memory card into the camera and press the mode button to get to the mode screen. Enter into Tools/SETTINGS and find FORMAT. Once you select format you will receive a YES or NO option. Select YES and you will see a FORMATTING message. Once the formatting is complete, see if the camera reads the card and functions properly

"Memory card is locked"

This error message means that the memory card is write-protected. To take a picture, turn off the camera. Then insert a new card or change the storage location to internal memory
