After I upgraded from Window XP media center to Vista Up I had nothing but problems. Did not know if the problem was a virus but was so unhappy with Vista I deleted everything and tried to set up original operating system disc. It started once. Since then the computer beeps 3 times. Fans start and a green light in the lower felt corner comes on but the computer will not boot up.
3 bleeps usually relating to memory... try removing and re-inserting RAM and video cards... or try them elsewhere in another machine. It may be wise to remove all the RAMs and add one at a time while trying to reboot.
NOTE: Remove the power wait a few moments before handling each RAM.
Another cause since it's been 'sitting' a while could well be the power supply due to failing capacitors, so trying another wouldn't be a bad idea.

You will need a bootable antivirus solution to clean the viruses off of the machine if it's that bad, or at least that is the easiest way I know of.
Look, here is the real deal, your PC when booted to the hard drive into windows OS has what are called OS protected files. That means that even the best scanner will not remove it totally from the machine while booted in Windows OS.
When you use a bootable AV solution it runs the OS from the CD, then when you are scanning the drive for those little nasties, it can be remove, because the OS on the drive is not protecting them.
However be aware when using this method, that any files can and will be removed!!! The way I look at it, if it's a virus I don't want it on my hard drive! period! Then once the virus is removed format and reinstall the OS. Sorry to hear about your Recovery Partition!
There are ways to make these yourself, but if you don't know what your doing, relax Bart has you covered!
Check that out, that should fix you up. Yeah I know this is not a free solution, but one I know will work!

Unplug all drive cables, backwards P-IDE can cause this issue.
If this doesn't help remove the video card if possible
If the motherboard is alive you should get a video beep.
If you don't hear anything remove the ram, you should get a memory beep. If you don't get a memory beep it's either the motherboard or CPU.
You could try to clear the CMOS and if the system has a backup BIOS review the manual to boot with the emergency BIOS.

sounds like an issue with your motherboard or something like that...try resetting the motherboard by unplugging the power, taking out the battery of the motherboard inside the computer and pressing the power button several times to drain the power. then put the battery back in, plug in the power cord and try to start it up. if it doesnt work then ur gonna have to contact emachines because ur mobo is either defective or broken...

If you still have the original eMachine software as your desktop, go to Start > system Recovery > Create my Drivers and Application CD disk. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response Thanks, Joe
This will create a CD that will contaon all the drivers for your eMachine.

The disk is corrupted and it interferes with the install process. Just get this
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
boot from it and format your entire disk to reiserfs then to FAT32 - this way any trace of the old NTFS file system is thoroughly wiped. Now launch the recovery process one more time and it will automatically detect the FAT32 partition and will reformat it to NTFS in the process.
