Ice Maker Dumping Water into Collection Tray.

I have read continually about the problems with the LG ice makers. My problem is that when the ice maker tray gets twisted to dump the ice it is not resetting before the water starts to refill it. Therfore filling the collection tray underneath making it one solid block of ice, jamming the dispensor. It seems that it is getting stuck on the opposite side of the tray from the motor. Of course this has been an ongoing problem and now its out of warranty and the extended warranty does not cover ice makers. DO NOT WAIT IF YOU ARE HAVING A PROBLEM, CALL NOW. I didn't, now have to eat getting it fixed.

Not to plug any company but... if you get Sears to fix it ask them for a Master Protection Agreement on it, that "Warranty" will cover most everything like that where the typical warranties don't. Just a thought if you don't want to "eat getting it fixed" ever again. Thanks for the post to others, it really helps if people know not to wait on such issues.

This sounds like a thermostat in the ice maker has failed. Unfortunately, LG provides no replacement parts for the ice maker. They say to just replace the assembly, so there is no alternative other than ice maker replacement. Here is the ice maker to order.

Ice maker problems are almost always a problem. Sometimes I will locate an issue and fix it and then it will work for a short period and then break again. So, now I just replace the ice maker as a general rule. This is much more likely for success. However, the replacement ice maker is often not an exact match. And again, the this and the that sometimes causes problems. I will never accept a new customer on the grounds that I am going to fix their home ice maker. Make sure the ice machine is getter water like it is supposed to. Check the filter and the tubes. If the problem persists, get a new ice maker. If that ice maker angers you, get some ice cube trays.

It sounds like the water inlet for your ice maker is now frozen. Blast a hair dryer around the waterinlet to the ice maker for 5-10 minutes, reconnect the ice-maker and you should hear the sweet sound of flowing water

It's on the back where the water supply is connected. You can swap the wires on the dual water inlet valve and disconnect the water line at the valve which goes to the ice maker. When you try the water dispenser the water will come out there. When you stop the water dispenser, if the water at the valve doesn't stop, the valve isn't closing so you'll need to replace it.

Ice not dropping

Press the little button on the bottom right of the ice maker and clear the tray of ice. The maker has to be turned on for the tray to tilt and empty. This corrected the problem for me. The freezer side may have been left open and and the ice maker filled the tray while the door was open, I suspect.

Ice maker problem

Clear the Ice tray by pressing the button under the ice maker. The problem is that the ice is in the first couple of slots is not dumping and the tray tries to fill again and over flows. I pressed the button and cleared the tray of ice (This will tilt the tray and twist it to empty it) that was re-frozen several times without dumping. My ice maker works perfectly after I did the above. I think the problem arises if the door did not close completely. I stopped hanging the dish cloth on the door and on my LG Dish wisher. I hope this helps

LG SXS Refrigerator LSC26905 ice maker

I was able to order the ice tray myself and install it in the fridge - it's not hard. I ordered from one of the parts sellers linked to at the LG website, not those listed in other posts here.

Here's how to replace the tray:

You need to remove the tray dumping mechanism to do this.
  1. Remove the ice bin, set it aside (don't forget to deal with the ice melt).
  2. Turn the ice maker off (LG says to unplug the fridge, I didn't).
  3. On the left hand side of the ice tray dumping mechanism there is a screw helping to keep the entire thing suspended from the ceiling of the freezer. Remove that screw- don't worry, the mechanism will stay put for now.
  4. The dumping mechanism can now slide forward- note that you can't completely remove it from the freezer yet, but slide it forward and it will no longer be suspended from the ceiling. Don't let it drop or hang.
  5. You need to disconnect its power supply now. On the left hand side you should see a small bundle of wires coming from the back of the freezer to the dumping mechanism. It connects to the dumping mechanism's set of wires with a pair of white plugs. Pull these plugs apart. You may need to pry the catch on these plugs apart while you pull.
  6. Now you can take the dumping mechanism out of the freezer (and close your freezer).
  7. To remove the ice tray you need to slide the housing that contains the rotating motor out of the housing. This is on the right side of the mechanism. If you have trouble identifying it look at the underside of the entire thing and you'll see a small "test" button. That button is on the motor.
  8. To remove the motor you'll see two catches on the right side- you'll need to pull these catches out without breaking anything. You'll be able to slide the motor down and out when you get it right.
  9. Sliding the motor out lets you get the old ice tray out now. There is probably a set of white wires routed through a little catch on the old ice tray that you'll need to free.
  10. Put the new ice tray back on the motor. You'll need to get the left side secured at the same time you get the motor housing in its catches of the dumping mechanism.
  11. Reroute those white wires back on the new ice tray.
  12. Reconnect the electric wires to the housing.
  13. Slide the entire dumping housing back onto the ceiling of the freezer and screw in on the left side.
That's it. You can press that test button on the underside of the motor. This will dump the tray and immediately refill it with water so you can observe if everything is working.

Ice tray sometimes stuck when dumping off ice

I had the same problem. I did the following and it now works great. The ice tray has a square tab on the rear leftside. As the tray rotates to dump the ice, the tab runs on a curved section of the the ice maker frame. The curved section becomes rough with use and causes the tray to stick when it is returning to the fill position. I carefully sanded the curved section of the frame to smooth it out. No problems since.
One does have to dismantle the ice maker to effect this repair.
