Picture size too large

On some remotes there is a button with Aspect/Zoom, try pressing that until you get the desired picture.

Look for "Size" on remote, or go into menu under "picture", adjust size there.

When the picture is too large there are three possible solutions at least.

Starting with the simplest two: There are buttons on the remote controls (cable/satellite and television) that control the picture size. On the cable remote it is usually on the bottom, and it says hd zoom. Press it and it will size the picture down for you. On the television or satellite remote it might say view mode, picture mode, format or aspect.

Now, the more difficult solution if the above doesn't work: The settings might not be right in the cable box/set top box. If the television is a 720p television, make sure the cable box/set top box is set for 720p and not 1080i even though they're the same (yes, yes I know). Also make sure you are not connecting a cable/set top box to the coaxial rf input when you have the capability to connect to a component or hdmi cable. I hope this helps.

It all depends of your needs. I own a projector and I've decided to purchase it because I wanted a very large picture. I've looked up for lcd TV's in the picture size I wanted and the prices were sky-high. If you're looking for a normal sized (up to 50 inches) I recommend an lcd TV, it will cost you significantly less money than a projector, but if you want bigger size I suggest you to get a projector.

When this happens you can try the wide/picture format/view mode button on your television's remote control first. If your remote does not have one or if this does not correct the problem check the resolution on the cable box next. If your television displays 720p make sure the cable box is set for 720p, or 1080i if the television supports that resolution. First you have to make sure your tv in on the right input not the tv tuner input. Then use the hdzoom# button on the cable remote. If you have a satellite remote it might say format or aspect or you might have to go into the cable box/satellite receiver menu and choose 1080i crop or 1080i stretch to get the right picture size.

It appears that on this television you can only adjust the picture size when you are using the twin picture feature. You must adjust the picture size with your other remote control. Since I do not know whether you are connected to a cable box or a satellite tv box or a blu ray player or a DVD player I cannot be very specific. On your other remote control you should had an hd zoom button, aspect, format, ratio, #, or etc. Those buttons change the picture size. The other factor determining picture size is the resolution the equipment connected to your tv is set to. This tv supports 1080i but you should also try setting the connected equipment to 720p or 480p or 480i. Also the connected equipment may be connected to your tv in two places so make sure you are on the correct selection using the tv video button on the Sony remote.

Can you explain more about what you mean by big then small? When the picture got small do you mean it shrunk down in size leaving a black screen around the perimeter? Or did it bow in from top bottom? If you van acurately describe what it was doing I may be able to point you into the right direction on diagnosing the problem.

Go into the setup menu of the TV, and you'll find a category called DISPLAY or ZOOM. That's where you can change the aspect ratio so that it fits on the screen. You'll probably get a gray band on the top and bottom of the screen due to the re-sizing.
