SOURCE: Not able to scan to pdf file with Brother MFC-240C

What you seem to want to do is not possible. Let me explain:
A file that has its data in the Adobe company Portable Document Format (or a pdf file) contains various objects that are described to the computer using a superset of the PostScript language, some of them can be images.

A file that comes from the scanner is first a very organized set of pixels and gets put into a more compact form by using a well known process as defined by the Joint Motion Picture Experts group. This is a roundabout way of saying that it has a format that isn't PDF.

What you CAN do:
a) open the jpeg file with a Macintosh, using the Print command from the file menu make a pdf file that has the image in it.

b) buy and install a PDF printer driver on a Windows machine, and then follow the same process as A above.

c) Use your favorite PDF creation program to make a file with the image embedded.

SOURCE: OCR problems for Brother MFC-8660DN with Vista 64bit

You are correct in that paperport 9 will not work on Vista and paperport 11 is the alternative. I called about a similar model and the guy at Brother told me that paperport 11 is included on an updated cd from brothermall.com for some models. It was only about $3 so you might want to check for your model. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Can't scan to PC with Brother MFC 8840D

My guess is a driver problem. I'm assuming you can print to it, so you know the USB connection is good. And you can make a copy (I assume), so you know the scanner mechanism and its connection with the rest of the machine works.
The scanner driver is separate from the printer driver. It's entirely possible to install and use the printer without having loaded the scanner driver. Best bet is to unplug the unit from your computer, then uninstall it completely from Windows. There may be an Uninstall program listed under Brother in your Start menu...All Programs... Or go to Start...Settings...Control Panel (or however your version of Windows get there) and open your Scanners and Cameras folder. If you find the Brother machine in there, Select it and click Remove. Do the same in the Printers folder.
Don't plug your machine back in until you have reinstalled the drivers. Go to www.brother-usa.com, and in the Service & Support box on the right, click Downloads. That will take you to a page where you'll select Multi-Function as your Product Group, then the model.
You'll get two lists of links. Forget Manuals, look at Drivers on the right.
Under Type of Software, click ALL. Select your OS.
You'll get a list of drivers and utilities for your model. Select the Full Package. Brother makes you accept the Terms of Use, then starts the download.
Look for Setup.exe in the main directory, or you may need to browse folders labeled with different language abbreviations to find it.
Start the installation, and don't plug your USB cable in until the computer tells you to. it will install the printer first, then return to install the scanner. It may require you to restart Windows more than once. Sorry.
Once you've suffered through all that it should be fine.

Brother MFC 6800 won't send scan results to iMac. The scan function appears to work, although nothing appears when using iPhoto or Picass for Mac. I am using Mac OX 10.6.5

Hi
I had the same problem. I knew the scan function was not broken because I could use it with my old PowerMacG4. But no go with the new Intel iMac, and no amount of driver updating or other OS fiddling solved anything.
I luckily found another MFC-6800 to test. And to my surprise scanning is working, and printing is much improved (no more "offline printer" when it's clearly online). The difference between the two: firmware version. My MFC is dated from 2001, while the other one is from 2004. For the date see the label behind the machine.
Now, why does scanning work on my old PowerMac G4? Apple probably changed something in the Intel drivers or the USB circuitry, or Brother didn't adhere to proper standards in 2001. Or it may be as stupid as an inability of the older Brother board/firmware to deal with USB 2 levels, even throttled down to USB 1.1. Who knows? Anyway I'm in contact with Brother and hope to get a way to upgrade the firmware in my printer.
Did you try scanning with Graphic Converter? Some Adobe products need updates to properly scan in Snow Leopard.
Hope this help.

I can't find software for Brother MFC-6800 printer for Vista....I can print only..I can't find scan, copy software for vista

The OS has a built-in driver that should automatically install when the USB cable is connected. Check Windows Update for new and optional updates if you don't see the printer appear. If you use a bi-directional parallel cable (with the computer properly set up), use the Printer Wizard and then the Add Device Wizard (IIRC). The scanner won't work over the network.

Try using one of the programs built into Windows: Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan), Paint (File > Import from Camera or Scanner > New Scan) or Photo Gallery to launch a scan. Alternatively, get a third-party software option (Paperport, for example).

Go here: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us_ot/en/dlf/download_top.html?reg=us&c=us_ot&lang=en&prod=mfc6800_us to get a utility to improve the scan resolution.

I hope this helps.

(Scanner problems can often be resolved with a new data cable and a direct connection between the unit and the computer. This assumes that the scanner is unlocked (for those with a transport lock) and that the unit is properly lighting up and the scanner is moving freely.)

Program sending address on brother mfc-6800

The settings should be able to be changed one of two ways. Either under fax settings on the printers menu, or under fax settings under the printer properties panel on the computer.

Setup must have failed cannot print on brother mfc 6800 although I can scan

Hello,

It seems that somehow the installation of the software did not work fine.

Either use the disk to reinstall the software OR download the same from the Brother Support website to install the same.

It surely is a software issue.

Hope this helps
