Might help to tell us what kind of boat - deep V hull 22 ft.? bass boat with shallow V hull? Some need the transducer closer to the centerline of the vessel while others do better more outboard, Naturally they need to be flush with the hull no matter where they are located. Depending on the transducer, you could also try properly mounting it inside the vessel near the transom. Good new is you are getting good info from it. Cheers Pete

Like everything made there is always one that just doesn't work. All you can do is check and double check the connections and cables and make sure it is all tight and in the correct connector. I do know that if the voltage is not steady and between 10-13 volt your going to get bad readings. Humminbird has a very liberal return and exchange on transduceers and by contacting them with the issue I am sure they will excange this for you. All you have to do is send yours in and they will replace it. I have done this several times with them and am completely satisifed with their service. You might want to take some mild soapy water and clean the head of the unit, sometimes they can get a waxy type build up and this collect air bubbles and this will also throw it off. I know you probably already checked but is the head firmly mounted and not moving around on you? I have this same unit mounted to my trolling motor and I love it and have had no issues so i wish you luck.

How much torque on the transducer mounting bolt?

I install these and other Lowrance systems.
For me there is no specific amount of tourque, it's primarily your best judgment.
You want the bolt tight enough so that the transducer doesn't pivot while on plane but if it were to collide with something it would pivot up out of the way.

Bracket causes water to roostertail. Depth reading are erratic and incorrect. Very poor. I've had it for 4 months and it's never worked good I have moved location of transponder No affect

Call Humminbird and explain the problem you are having with the rooster tail. They sent me a free rubber piece that fills the gap between the transducer bracket and the transom of the boat. That solved my rooster tail problem.

Hello- I have a Hummingbird 550 fishfinder who suddenly isn't reading depth, fish or the correct temperature. I have looked at all the settings, wires hooked up to it and have disconnected and...

Check the transducer for cracks or large amounts of growth. Also make sure the transducer is still in the correct position as when installed. Next check the entire length of the cable to make sure there are no breaks, kinks, or stress points.
If you have to send it back for service MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP ALL OF YOUR DATA AS IT CAN BE RETURNED BLANK!

I have a new unit to fit. Can the transducer be mounted inside the hull? It currently gives me strange readings whether inside or out but we are on dry land - if that makes a difference

there are two kinds or transducers out there on the market --- some that can be mounted inside the hull and others that need to be mounted on the outside of the hull, the instruction manual should indicate which transducer you have. AND YES the transducer will only work when you are on the water --- the readings on land are no good and it will not work. install it on the boat and then test the unit on the water. BUT if you do want to test the unit before you install it to the boat you can always take the boat out to a lake ( or wherever ' on the water ' ) and mount the transducer to a long dowel or stick and hang it over the edge of the boat and this will work fine for testing.
' fish on and have fun '

Rooster tail is not shooting high

If the waverunner is performing normally as far as throttle response and top speed, then the rooster tail not shooting as high as it used to indicates there is a restriction in the nozzle for the rooster tail, not a problem with the ski. Unbolt the rooster tail nozzle from the steering nozzle and inspect it for debris.

383c transducer gives nothing but noisy red feedback at medium or high speeds

If it works at low speeds fine but has problems at higher speeds, basically you need to lower the transducer down further as it is lifted by the boat at higher speeds, or is getting caught in the turbulence of surface water created at higher speed. Lower the transducer a half inch at a time and re-test.
