I am trying to install zoombinis on window 7 but get a error message saying unsupported 16 bit i have try all the things on these forums but nothing works - please help
You should navigate to the setup file on the disc, right click, select 'Properties', choose the 'Compatibility' tab, select the 'Run in compatibility mode for:' checkbox, select 'Windows 98/Windows ME'. Then run the setup program.
Alternatively, you could right click on the setup file and choose the 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' option.
The problem here is that you likely have Windows 7 x64 which has little support for 16 bit programs. You may be able to run your program in Windows Virtual PC (XP mode) if you installed it, but the program will likely run rather slowly.
If the solutions I have provided do not work, then I hate to say this, but you are out of luck.
SOURCE: can I use Learn to
According to the company's website (http://www.amazon.com/Learn-to-Speak-German-8-1/dp/system-requirements/B00005TQ1E/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&n=229534&s=software), it works on Windows up to XP. It doesn't list Vista or Windows 7 as options. And it looks like others have had the same problem (http://www.fixya.com/support/t5241472-learn_speak_german_version_8_0 and http://www.fixya.com/support/t514069-let_learn_speak_german_8_0_run_windows). However if you have the Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise version of Windows 7 you might be able to run it in compatibility mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx or http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows).
Hope this helps!
SOURCE: Zoombini's Logical Journey won't start up
If the program produces an error right after hitting the Play button, I had success by launching the file Zoombinis Logical Journey.exe in compatability mode using Window 98 / ME and 640 x 480 resolution. The shortcut that is created during install points to TLCRUN.EXE which was what caused my error.
SOURCE: i recently upgraded windows vista to windows 7. i
well, i thought that windows 7 would have been developed to be compatible with ALL of the previous systems and programs that they were compatible with. as it is, windows 7 DOES have a way in the control panel that helped me out... there's actually a link in the control panel called "run programs made for previous versions of windows" it took a few tries to get the right setup for the game, but it's pretty self explanatory. sometimes it takes a couple of tries to start it up, but now i CAN play Zoombinis on my windows 7 pc.
Testimonial: "i finally figured this out on my own, but thanks for confirmation of this working. :) same for me as far as starting up after a few tries."

SOURCE: When I try to install
Maybe so. As alot of programs and software still recognizes windows xp and not windows 7. I have encountered alot of similar problems with windows 7 and the same program runs well with windows xp.
thanks,
