My Janome 625e is about 1 year old. It has sewn beautifully until about a week ago. I have done a lot of applique work using this machine and have loved it. About a week ago the fabric started "hanging up" as I sewed. I changed the setting to more of a zigzag and it would still hang up - just sitting in one spot and creating a blob of thread. I have cleaned the bobbin casing and area by using canned air to blow out all the fuzz and/or fibers faithfully and regularly. I use the canned air regularly during all my sewing projects, to keep the feed dog and bobbin areas clean. I am at my wits end. I've read my manual cover to cover and find no solution. What am I missing?
There are differing opinions about canned air. Some technicians are totally opposed to its use as it will force lint and debris farther into the machine's cavities requiring a professional to clean them.
If you have been using your machine a lot even though it's only been a year, it may just need some TLC from your favorite sewing machine technician. Most machine vendors recommend an annual check, cleaning, and adjustment.

Dos and Don ts of Cleaning Lint from Your Sewing Machine WeAllSew BERNINA...
SOURCE: bobbin thread bunching
I agree with brodering about the damage to your bobbin case, it should be smooth all over, as the thread travels across the top surface to form a stitch, and the small step on the underside locates it as the hook spins underneath.
Needle strikes often compromise the surface, as will the hook colliding with the under surface... and although it is possible to gently polish off the damage with fine grain wet & dry (black) sand paper (emery paper) there are limits to the success depending on the degree of damage.
While on the subject, ensure the bobbin case and hook race beneath are clean and free of lint or thread.

Take out your bobbin case and examine it for nicks, scratches and or rough spots. If the problem is not too bad it may be possible to buff out the bad spot with an emery stick or emery cloth. If that isn't possible or it makes too much noise after you buff it you will have to replace it. Look especially along the edges and underneath.

Make sure that you use the F foot when using decorative stitches.
The stitch balance my be off. Remove the accessory bin and you will see a large plastic screw with a + and a - and an arrow. Using a coin, turn the arrow to the center and test. Turn the arrow towards the + to stretch the pattern out.
If this doesn't work, it must me calibrated internally and requires an experience hand.

it sounds like a needle threading problem. if you have the instruction book, pull yout needle thread off the machine and re-thread as per the book ie presser foot up and make sure thread goes betwen tension discs and up over takeup lever.
to check needle tension is ok, lower presser foot and pull needle thread through needle, the needle thread should be tight enough to bend the needle a little.
