Our GE GSH25JSRSS Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator is not dispensing water. Produces ice just fine. Stopped working so replaced the filter, worked fine for about 3 weeks, and now doesn't dispense water. Unscrewed the filter and replaced, no luck.

How long did you have to wait for the defrost to take effect?

I had the same problem.  The water lines in the freezer door had frozen up.  I defrosted the freezer, and the water flows great now.

  • americanaglo Apr 03, 2011

I opened the freezer door, turned the setting for the freezer down to zero, pulled out the ice tray and rack above it to reveal the white tube that was frozen in back. (I could feel that it was frozen solid). I then held my hair dryer on the tube for 3-4 minutes and this fixed the problem.

Just encountered the same problem with our 5yr old GE side by side model GSH25JSTA; replaced filter, ice maker working fine but not the water dispenser. Based on the solutions above, turned the freezer temperature down to zero (off) took my hair blow dryer and turned it on high (with freezer door closed) and blew directly on lower left outside of freezer door, starting at bottom (near door hinge) and then slowly up left side of freezer and then onto backdrop of water dispenser area (still with the door shut; working outside) and then blew directly at the white tube where water normally comes out (CAUTION: AT THIS POINT SMALL DROPLETS OF WATER started dripping out of white tube dispenser, beginning to defrost...DON'T LET WATER DRIP ONTO running BLOW DRYER!). Once I saw droplets, confirmed water dispenser was functioning normally! Total time blow drying: 5 mins! Took longer to find solution online! Good Luck!

Tube in the back is for the ice maker, not the water in the door. The door water goes through a loop in the bottom back of inside the fridge, then under the fridge to the door hinge, up the door to the dispenser. Mine froze so I unplugged the fridge and emptied the freezer put a fan in front of it for two hours and it worked fine.

Frozen water reservoir in GE Eterna refrig model GESL25XGRBS-SS...the water dispenser doesn't work, although the ice dispenser is just fine. We turned off refrig for a few hours and the water dispenser...

According to factory experts, the water line is freezing in the door. There is no easy or cheap solution...they can replace the door for $300 is what I was told. The line is routed in such a way that it is not insulated enough from the cold of the freezer. Take off the bottom fan grill in front, take water line apart and cycle the water. It will pump out but not go through door. Buy a new door or go to the faucet.

Water dispenser not working. Ice dispenser works

There should be a water filter inside the water lines to the water spout. This filter could be clogged, or the water lines themselves may still be somewhat frozen and not allowing flow to the dispenser itself.
You can also test the power to the dispensor to make sure it is drawing water. Can you hear the pump trying to pump water to dispenser? The water valve should also be opening. You can test power to the valve that draws in water from the external water lines.

I replaced the water filter for my GE GSH25JSTA SS side by side fridge and now the unit is no longer dispensing water

I have had the same problem with the same model several times in the past. It also happens to me within a few days of replacing the water filter.

In my case, I believe the water line in the freezer door has become frozen. I usually let the freezer thaw for a couple of hours, and my water works again.

I have had constant problems with this model. I would recommend trying to sell your fridge now while it's still running, before the real headaches begin (mine has died 2x in the past six months, and I have not even had it for 2.5 years yet). No more GE's in my house.

In operative water dispenser.

I have GE side by side refrigerator - 2004 model GSH25SGRB SS. From the blog I found out the problem is with frozen water line. If I keep the door water would dispense ( thawing). Or if you disconnect at the bottom ( take the grill out and disconnect) the water would dispense.

I placed a call to GE. The service person came. He said GE could fix with a 3 watt heater. He opened the panel. Pasted a heater. It came in a Y shape form. He connected that to the internal wiring. After some time the water started working.

Part $40. Labor for 15 min work = $210. Total = $250.

This is really should be a recall case. No part broken. They had to design a heater to solve this problem. What a rediculus thing is this. I am trying to call GE and ask to refund.

What a cheat GE!!. F them.
