When I turn on my Sony HDR-HC1 it continuously cycles on and off. If I switch it to photo mode (camera mode not video mode) and then switch it back to video mode it sometimes stops cycling. I tried reseting the unit with the reset button and that didn't work either.
I had this exact problem, and the cycling would stop after about 30 sec. and then function properly. I believe a circuit was confused, mainly because I used an older battery and let it run out till the batt was dead - accidently - and when I put in a fresh batt, it no longer cycled and works perfectly to this day.
Now if I can get my computer to recognize the camera via firewire, I'd be golden.

I was able to get the camera working properly by reseting it. I think the cause was using an off brand battery. The rest worked.
I used to be able to use the iLink port successfully then it just stopped working one day. Still trying to figure that issue out.
same problem i link stopped working power turns on and off, and sony wants $500 to fix it, the camera is great and all. I just wanted to tell you you are not alone, I thought the problem may be caused by hotswapping the I link port.. All I know is sony is giving me $500 towards a new camera, even though I am out of warranty! maybe someone knows why this happens!
help i have the same problem but with the cycling but it now wont turn on or charge, whats happend? and what should i do?
I also have a dead HDR-HC1. Won't power on ... LCD panel flashes for a split second when the power switch is put in Camera or VCR mode.
DSJRAPPER: how are you getting $500 from Sony towards a new camera? Is this some kind of program they have? I'd love to pick up an FX7, or FX1000 to replace my HC1. $500 from Sony would definitely help towards that.
Thanks for any & all info -
