HDR-HC1 power keeps cycling

When I turn on my Sony HDR-HC1 it continuously cycles on and off. If I switch it to photo mode (camera mode not video mode) and then switch it back to video mode it sometimes stops cycling. I tried reseting the unit with the reset button and that didn't work either.

I was able to get the camera working properly by reseting it. I think the cause was using an off brand battery. The rest worked.

I used to be able to use the iLink port successfully then it just stopped working one day. Still trying to figure that issue out.

same problem i link stopped working power turns on and off, and sony wants $500 to fix it, the camera is great and all. I just wanted to tell you you are not alone, I thought the problem may be caused by hotswapping the I link port.. All I know is sony is giving me $500 towards a new camera, even though I am out of warranty! maybe someone knows why this happens!

I also have a dead HDR-HC1.   Won't power on ... LCD panel flashes for a split second when the power switch is put in Camera or VCR mode.

DSJRAPPER:   how are you getting $500 from Sony towards a new camera?  Is this some kind of program they have?   I'd love to pick up an FX7, or FX1000 to replace my HC1.    $500 from Sony would definitely help towards that.

Thanks for any & all info -

I had this exact problem, and the cycling would stop after about 30 sec. and then function properly. I believe a circuit was confused, mainly because I used an older battery and let it run out till the batt was dead - accidently - and when I put in a fresh batt, it no longer cycled and works perfectly to this day.

Now if I can get my computer to recognize the camera via firewire, I'd be golden.

My HDR HC1 is showing moisture condensation alert every second time I turn it on for shooting. Also, in the playback mode on a shot tape I cannot find any video on the monitor...

- remove all from camcorder.(battery, tape and accessories and place the camcorder in a dry storage(ive tried placing it inside a rice container for a while and it helped because rice grains will absorb moisture) make sure to put the camcorder on a platform(cardboard or anything flat to place your camcorder) if you're going to place it in a rice container.its worth a try and its safe but if the problem persists i would recommend you to have you're camcorder checked and cleaned by a professional.

I have a sony HDR-HC1 camcorder and I can't get the tape door to close.

Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively (much less than the $800 Sony will charge). However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

How do you fix the touch screen on my hdv 1080i mini dv,

touchscreen problem on the HDR-HC1 is usually caused by a broken flex cable. service manual is a must-have; it illustrates the correct disassembly and replacement procedures for the cables.

Sony h8 video camera problem

Try depressing the "Reset" button with the camera powered on using a pencil/ball point pen - the camera's logic may have got out of sync. This often helps to remove C:xx:xx error types as well.
