2-3 months ago a noticed a white small dot on my screen. It gradually increased up to the point that now The whole screen is covered in these dots. It's not only white, but black dots also. But hte black ones are much more difficult to see. The tv is a year and a half old.

sound like you have samsungs dlp white spots plague, which just gets worst. samsung are aware of the problem, so you need to get in touch under the warranty.
white dots, especially if they have gradually been increasing in numbers is usually a defect in the optical light engine, not too many other things will cause this.
well u have stopped ur movies(dvds) to many times and the dots are burn marks on ur screens if u read ur manual it will tell u NOT to leave a still picture on for to long as it will damage ur screen i assume u have a PLASMA TELEVISION if not... sorry cant help u
It sound like the light engine is going out or already out. I would take it to a certified Hitachi dealer have them check it out then I would call Hitachi to have them fix it for free.
