My PC won't run with ac /dc power!

My sony vaio pc will not work with the ac/dc power supply plugged in if the battery is in the pc. When the power supply is pluged in my cd rom won't work and the pc sometimes shuts down. with out the power cord the pc is fine but the battery doesn't last long. I have noticed sometimes when I plug the powere supply in, the power supply light goes out and the pc is now running off the battery. I also notice the little icon on the bottom does not change from ac/dc back to the battery icon. My pc won't work with the power supply plugged in, but it will charge the battery if the pc is off. If you take out the battery and just used the power adapter the pc is fine, but the cd rom does not work properly. Last but not least, the pc light used to turn red indicating a full battery now it does nothing

Hello. There is a hardware failure with the laptop not the AC charger. AC chargers have some range of protections of their own. If the power requirements of the laptop are bigger then what the charger can handle, the charger will turn off. Also other parameters can bring the charger offline. In your case, you have a problem with a small chip, the battery charge controller unit, witch regulates the amount of current required to propperly charge the battery. When this thing fails, the charging requirements for the battery are reported rong and the AC charger is forced to give more power then necesary. This results in disconnection of the AC charger ( an internal fail safe of the AC charger) and the laptop to swich back to battery power. When the laptop is turned off, it can charge the battery because the power requirements are low, having all processor, main board, hard disk etc turned off. Therefore the AC charger can handle the load. However you will need to have it checked by a service center as it is a hardware fault. Both AC charger and laptop needs that check. The charge controll circuit needs to be replaced probably. It will be a somewhat expensive repair. Don't buy any other battery untill you have the laptop checked. For more aditional info please post back. PS. Sorry for my bad english, I am from Romania, it is pretty hard for me to explain tehnical stuff in english.

Sony vaio not charging while charger plugged in

Seemingly your laptop dc jack is dead. How to confirm it? If you should wiggle your laptop charger on a position to let your laptop charge, it indicates your dc jack is loose. Either replace it or repair it. If your dc jack works well, please check your ac adapter. Maybe your charger is dead.

Sony pcg-81114L power supply not detected

If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Laptop won't charge

You might need a new battery....you could try removing the battery, plug laptop into ac and restarting. Or you might need a new DC power jack. If you wiggle the cord where it plugs into the laptop, and it starts to charge normally, then the DC power jack needs replacing. http://www.insidemylaptop.com/take-apart-sony-vaio-vgn-s360p-replace-broken-power-jack/

Sony viao wont boot, battery light flashes amber once when power button is pressed, AC power indicator on laptop is green and responds to being un-plugged and the adapter LED is green, but it still wont...

Move the power jack around while plugged in, does the blinking on the battery stop when you hold it in certain positions? If so, your dc-jack needs to be soldered, but i probably was loose already before you started using it. It could be a broken motherboard issue as well. You can try to open the laptop and check the dc connection. There is a Laptop Repair Guide that shows you how to take apart a laptop, the sony may be made in a similar way. Sony Repair NYC

Would any 16volt ac adapter be ok to charge my PCG-VX89 vaio notebook?

you can use any laptop AC adapter DC output-16V and 4A (current). if its jack size natch your laptop DC jack.
if the adapter DC current less than 4A (over 2.5A at least) you should only make the battery charging without laptop turn on!!!
please take a rating let me know how much helped you thanks!

Internal fuse need replacing

Sorry, but i don't think there is fuse on motherboard.
More likely its a loose DC socket cable to motherboard or faulty AC adapter.
If Dc - ok, AC - ok, then its a faulty motherboard.

Wont boot up when plugged in but boots from battery

When you plug it in, does it show that the battery is charging? If not, then the DC Power socket has failed on the laptop, so a new power supply would not fix the problem.

The manufacturer will tell you to replace the motherboard, however the DC power sockets are readily available, and relatively easy to fit.

AC Power adaptor wont work without usb printer connected

Hey alberto,
First off thanks for choosing Fixya.com. The Ac adapter itself could be bad or it could be the dc jack. And also the problem with your cpu fan could also be that the fan has gone out or the motherboard itself needs to be replaced.
