Maytag portable dishwasher is not draining

I have a Maytag portable dishwasher that is almost 2 years old (MDC4650AWW). My problem is that is doesn't drain completely. (It is level) When it tries to drain, it trickles out of the hose. In fact, most times I run it, there is about 1-2 inches of water on the bottom of the dishwasher left over so i don't feel the dishes are actually being rinsed clean. When I pull the hose in and out while it's draining, it tends to come out better. It's as if something is stuck in the hose. has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

I have the same problem as beldo02's maytag portable dishwasher not draining but mine also makes a terrible noise during the wash cycle. My dishwasher is 2 years old....is this a common problem with this model?

I have had the same problem and shaking the hose was a temporary fix. I decided to take apart the dishwasher to see if there was some kind of a clog. What I found, after taking off the top and back is that the drain hose gets kinked by the fill hose. They both run up the side of the machine and back down and are held in place by a cable tie. Over time the drain hose must have gotten soft and with the fill hose on top of it, it kinks over the cable tie. Therefore I cut the cable tie, put the drain hose on top of the fill hose and put on a new cable tie and this seems to have solved the problem because the water now drains as fast as did when new.

Try to clean the filter by taking off the bottom section of the water jet, it might be clogged, if that does not work, u got the same problem as me, it just wont drain. The pump is probably broken.

Hi,
You will have to replace the control panel to the dishwasher to fix this problem, part # 6-919091. Your key pad has failed.

I have just purchased a used dishwasher #MDC4650AWW. They said it was 2 years old. It is a portable. I have not been able to hook up yet to see if it even runs. Please let me know what year it is and if...

The dishwasher is manufactured by Maytag. The date of manufacture is determined by the last two LETTERS in the SERIAL number. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r2880528-determining_age_maytag_appliance

If you have any difficulties determing the manufactured date, please post back with your serial number and I can assist you. I hope you find this information helpful.

Maytag portable dishwasher, dish racks are very rusted in 2 years

This is Maytags solution

Do the dishwasher racks have chips or scratches showing exposed metal underneath?
If minor rack repairs are needed, a dishwasher rack repair kit just might work. To review this product or purchase the kit, click here.
Should you purchase the kit online, enter Promo Code F9A75Q4 in the Review Order screen when you check out to receive a 10% discount on your order.
For more severe rack damage, a replacement rack may need to be purchased; call the Maytag Customer eXperience Center toll-free at 1-866-616-2601, Monday-Friday, 8AM-6PM, Eastern Time.

I would call the toll free number and see if a free replacement is available. If not at least try to get a big discount on replacing them.

Good luck and thanks for using Fix Ya, please take the time to rate this solution (from Fix Ya, not Maytag, I didn't like their solution).

MDC4650AWW Portable Dishwasher

We've had a similar problem. A banshee screaming noise that's makes the skin crawl. Since our machine is well out of warranty I took the insides apart and found only a few cherry pits. (Lesson learned, always scrape your dishes before loading.) We covered out ears for a few minutes and the bad, bad noise went away. But the noise came back, it didn't stay away.. So here's what I found with more tinkering.

1. Problem: Small hard things can get lodged in the food mill/grinder assembly at the bottom of the dishwasher tub. It's there to cut up the big chus of organic matter I presume.Today I found a thin piece of plastic about an 1" long that got caught and was resisting being ground(even though we know resistance is futile) by the grinder thing. Anyway, I took the offending piece out, put it back together and the machine is working fine. I have a hunch that the first instance may have been one of those stray cherry pits that broke up enough to get caught.

2. Solution: take apart inside assemblies to get down to the "foodmill" like thingie and see if there's something hard organic or unorganic causing the noise. Discard. Put back together and hope that solves it. (It did for our machine)

3. What's needed? Good knees or a decent knee pad and a few simple tools as follows:
A. 1- medium flat blade screwdriver
B. 2- TORX screwdrivers, # T-15 and T-20, or equivalent bits for a portable electric drill/screwdriver.
C. Small pair of regular pliers or simialr tool.
D. Muttering under your breath like Fred Flintstone, or not.

4. Process:
Take out the water jet assembly. It is held by a clip at the back and top. Use the screwdriver to pry the tabs away from the clips, then pull the assembly out at the bottom where it connects. It's a simple slide in/out fit. The bottom whirlygig water jet is fastened with a threaded cap that can be removed with the pliers. (BTW, this can get clogged with gunk. while you have it of check for gunk. Then, keeping track, remove the remaining hardware with the TORX #T-20 screwdriver until you get to a round black piece. The black piece has to come off before you can remove the piece with the filter and grinding screen. Use the #T-15 bit for removal of the black piece. Then remove the rest 'till you see a "blade". Hopefully in that process, whatever was causing "the noise" will fall out and you can discard it. Observe how gross it is in there, shudder, and begin the process in reverse.

I do have some pictures of the process in stages if you want. E-mail me at: gpfn47atyahoo.ca (note: please use the "@" symbol to replace the "at")
Well, that's it. I hope it helps someone.
Have a Blessed New Year!
