If you can successfully log into your account on your computer.
Then you must be typing your password in correctly on the phone.
Sometimes auto correct will effect password spots. Or you might need to just type really slow and make sure your not hitting one letter and it's registering as another letter. Which is the most common sign in problems I've seen on touch based phones.
Try to see first if you have the latest iTunes installed on your computer. If you already have it installed, try to click Store in the left side of iTunes and login in again to your daughter's iTunes account and see if iTunes will turn grey again. If you can login to your daughter's iTunes account and she can see her transactions, account profile, etc., then the account is active and the reason for the grey out screen is because of your iTunes version. If you cannot login, you can try to access the link below to have your account password reset to be able to access it.

If it says that you're account has been disabled and you cannot reset your password, your only option is to call Apple and ask them to be able to access your account again.
I take it that you have set up the account within the accounts control panel and you have setup the account as managed with parental controls. Click on the account (to change it you will need to enter an administrators username and password). Once in the account click on the "Open Parental Controls) Click on the account and from there you can under system determine which applications your daughter can use. Under content you can restrict what websites she can use. and the other items are fairly self explanatory. The logs can allow you to check what websites have been accessed. Hope this helps.
Try to go to http://login.live.com/ and try the forgotten password option, and you'll have a new password in your mailbox, log in with that and change the password inside and she'll be able to log in to her account once again.
if you have another user account with administrator access you can either remove the password i the user account field or you can try accessing the files of that particular user account and transfer it and just erase the user account and create a new one. vista does not have any backdoor to access using the disk unlike xp
