Model #57h81
When tv is plugged in, red light comes on solid, then starts blinking. Doesn't seem to be any pattern, just constant blinking. Power button on front does nothing. We do not have the remote.

Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device, in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

You have a couple of grounds that loose on the main board. I just had best buy out and they fixed it in 10 min. Charged me $90 for the service call. I would tell you exactly which ones to look for but I have not a clue. All I know they were towards the back of the board near the audio connectors. Hope this helps.

Based on the fact that when you remove the back and press on things making the set work for a while I would say that you have bad (cracked or cold) solder joints. If you can solder, disconnect power, remove the board (the one you normally have to press) and solder all the connections or at least any feed throughs, major power componnents and anything suspicious looking under magnification. If you can not solder you will need a reputable shop to look at it. Cost should not exceed $125 US. Good Luck.

I just had the same problem last week I had reinstalled another lamp unit on my 62hm14 DLP, and it was doing the same thing both lights were blinking but the tv would not power up and come on.
It was simple once we figured out what was wrong the lamp unit door apparently has a safely mode switch and if the screw is not screwed into the tv to keep it from being opened it will not come on. It was just a safety feature.
We dropped our screw and god knows where it went but we found another, put it in and ta da tv came straight on.

The TV is on protect mode.
Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.
Also
ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending
bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box
or dvd connected.
If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing
led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while,
that indicates a fault condition.
The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.
1The
internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic
charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read
by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the
protection circuit.
2 The protection circuit detected a wrong
voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in
, startingthe flashing light.
If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.
If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.
Common faults
that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a
convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.
Check also
the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you
can get same flashing state because of the video cable.
If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual
If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

The convergence ICs and the six 1.8 ohm 1watt resistors need to be replaced. You can get the convergence repair kit for your model at www.tvrepairworld.com which has the Two Convergence ICs and the six resistors plus the CD with instructions on how to do the repair.

I have same problem on Toshiba 56WH08B, I rang Toshiba today but they won't tell me the codes, only engineers get that info. There is a pattern of flashing, mine starts constant RED......'delay.....RED-GREEN...RED-GREEN...RED GREEN.............delay......RED/GREEN continuous.
I have same problem on TOSHIBA 56WH08B. Sequence of flash error is;-
PWR UP..CONTINUOUS RED....delay....RED/GRN...RED/GRN...RED/GRN
.......delay........RED/GRN RED/GRN......CONTINUOUS.
I rang Toshiba in Nottingham today but they refused to give me the codes?
So I need advice please.
Thanks Warren
Today when I went to turn on my 57H81 I got no picture but only a blinking red light on front panel. No response to remote or pushing front button. Unplugging unit for a while and plugging back in results in:
1) audible "Click"
2) flashing red light on front, nothing else
3) pushing front panel power does nothing
4) pushing remote power does nothing. just get flashing red light
i have the same problem and now i dont know if there is a fix if so can someone email [email protected]
thank you
Posted and hoping the Wizard of electronics will resolve the question that has puzzled us all. Sundance
Same problem for me too.
