Do I risk damaging my Acer Aspire 5742 by connecting it to my HDTV and watching for an extended period of time, i.e. 5 hours?

I would like to connect a HDMI cable from my Acer Aspire 5742 laptop to my HDTV and be able to leave it turned on for an extended period of time. Am I risking my laptop from overheating? Is there anything I can do to prevent problems?

No you shouldn't be. If you're really worried about it though you could always get yourself a laptop cooler.

    Hey FixYa,

Got this email from FixYa: "If the solution was helpful, click "Yes" underneath the solution. If it was not helpful, you can click "No" and add details to get a better answer."

The solution from White Zombie to my problem was VERY helpful and I'd love to 'click' yes beneath the solution but I can't for the life of me see anywhere on the page you hotlink to where there's a choice between yes and no. I'll be more than glad to do it if I can find the buttons.

SOURCE: how to connect/configure my acer

for HDMI, I guess you just connect it with HDMI cable to your LCD TV, and use the FN+F5 or F6 to switch display from laptop's LCD to external. I think it should be the same way as using projector.

My Acer aspire 5742 was working perfectly until I picked it up by the lid and damaged the screen!!! My local computer repair people said they have installed a new screen but it is not working and now

That sucks. What happened to the screen the first time? Did you crack it? Did it just go black? There isn't alot of parts in there to go bad so if they replaced the screen then all you have left is the inverter which powers the backlight, and the video cable. If you can hold a flashlight at an angle against the screen and see a very faint picture, the inverter is bad. If you see nothing then either you got a bad screen or maybe you or the techs damaged the cable or bent the pins where the cable connects to the motherboard. Hope this helps! Btw I wouldn't take it back to them again lol.

Broken stereo output jack acer aspire 5742

These are normally soldered to the motherboard. The only way to repair is to open the case, find where it connects to the motherboard and solder it back on. If the pin inside is broken you will need to try and get a new jack socket to solder on. Can be done, but fiddly job and may be quite expensive at your local PC repair shop.

Please check my youtube video to understand my problem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43ppZNyMACY

Great presentation of your problem.
One thing I would check is the screen saver. You say as long as you use the computer it looks normal. Look at your screen saver settings to see if the lined appearing coincide with the screen saver time.
With computer parts, failure on a periodic basis (based on time) usually indicated a heat problem. This does not appear to be the problem in your case, as you say you can use the computer for an extended period without a problem. This is why I was suggesting a screen saver problem. You might even try a different screen saver just to test this. Possibly the part of windows that controls the screen saver (and don't ask me where that is, 'cause I haven't a clue) is corrupt.

Good luck.

My Acer Aspire 5742-7653 is not connecting with the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. Could you help me with fix for this? Thanks,

Try Fn + F3. That should 'activate' the bluetooth switch. Also, download the Bluetooth Drivers from Acer website. Atheros worked for me.
