I have a new Kodak W1020 wireless photo frame which comes with Kodak EasyShare Digital Display Software. The main function is "media sharing" which allows you to control the frame and what it displays from the PC.
The frame associates with my wireless network and can connect to Internet. But, when it attempts to "scan" for local PCs it does not see any. Also when the PC software attempts to "scan" for wireless frames it does not see any.
There is a troubleshooter in the Kodak software which checks firewall settings and it reports that there is no firewall issue. Also I temporarily turned off my Norton personal firewall just-in-case; no help.
Network-wise, the PC is connected directly to a NetGear WiFi Range Extender which also serves the photo frame. So they are in the same subnet as each other. The NetGear doesn't have firewall functionality and anyway it's only bridging.
I can't find any advanced options in the software e.g. to manually tell it the IP address of the photo frame. Anyone know this information?
I tried Kodak "live chat" and the tech got as far as "your WiFi router is not on my supported list" and then ran off the end of his world. Extremely unlikely this is a network issue, since (as noted above) the NetGear is only bridging here and the frame is definitely associated. But I suppose stranger things have happened.
imho it's much more likely some kind of conflict between the Kodak software and something else on the system.
Anyone had any experience with this and have any suggestions what to try?
I had some problems with wireless connectivity with the Ex1011. It turned out to be the connection was breaking when I used WPA security. When I went to WEP it worked fine. My suspicion is that the router was changing the Key over time and the frame wasn't following it. So it would work for a while then stop. But also had trouble even seeing it at times. Anyway, worth a shot. You might try turning off security on the router altogether to see if it makes a difference. Good luck.

My message the same, "Can not get IP address from router". I manually entered WEP key to get that far. Couldn't get anything by attempting to load my flash drive into the Digital Frame.
That's a great suggestion - my network does use WPA! I wish I could try it - after the Kodak chat technician was rude I ended up returning the product, so unfortunately I'll never know. Thanks.
ex811 does not appear to like wep....I have to leave the router open! Kodak support sucks big time!! Support guy I had blamed it on the router and Microsoft and provided no support what so ever.....except of course willing to dial Microsoft for me! Thanks a ton Kodak
I have the same problem. My W1020 picture frame can connect to the internet with WiFi no problem via my DLINK DSL-G604T router. I can also connect to the frame via my PC browser. I installed the latest Easyshare digital display software but it cannot discover any Kodak devices on the network. I disabled firewalls, the wireless troubleshooter says OK for step 1, then in step 2 says no devices found. I also disabled the Windows XP firewall, still no help. From the frame I see no devices discovered during a scan. I am using the latest firmware. I have no filtering or firewall on the router. Is it something in XP ? How can I tell the Easyshare software on the PC the IP address of the frame ? What software does the software use to scan the network ? Is it a Windows share ? Thanks for all info.

I have a similar issue with W1020 and connecting to the digital display software -- the software is a POS. The picture frame is on my network and can see all of my other computers and NAS device. However, the supplied digital display software can't find the picture frame. The wireless troubleshooting is no help and only says it can't find the picture frame. I am using WEP security.
I totally agree Kodak support is worthless.
I have the same problem. My wireless device is listed in the settings, but when I go to scan for devices, the Frame is unable to find it. I get that same message, "Check firewall settings." This is an unbelievably frustrating device! The support is useless.
In my case the W1020 connects wirelessly (WEP), sees computers, and will play either from a PC or from the internet (Kodakgallery, Webshots, etc). No problems at all EXCEPT it ALWAYS drops the wireless connection after exactly 25 minutes. After protracted troubleshooting and correspondence with Kodak support, they gave me return authorization for repair. It just came back with no fault found and the advice to check my wireless network. As if I haven't been doing that since Christmas. All my other wireless devices work fine and I even took the frame to my daughter's house where it did exactly the same thing on her wireless network. ebes' idea about WEP keys is interesting.
