My D40X won't turn on!

I checked if my battery was charged before I left home. I turned on my D40X and it indicated that it still had lots of battery power left. I then left home then after about twenty minutes, I turned on my D40x and it won't power up. I tried replacing the battery with one of the exact same kind(nikon). It still won't turn on. The little green light doesn't flash when I insert the battery.

I also tried replacing the lens, removing the memory card, and using the reset button. It won't work.

SOURCE: Nikon d40x shutter stuck

The manual (pg 112) simply, and unfortunately, states this message "Press shutter release button again. If error persists, consult with Nikon-authorized service representative".

Some questions that might help: have you had the camera in some extreme conditions, damp, sand, etc. Clean the shutter button really well. Maybe use a small air blower and clean in the shutter release creases.

In the end, if the error continues, it will need to be serviced.

That's because the Nikon D40x does not have Live View. Up until a couple of years ago, no DSLR's had live preview, due to the design of a DSLR over a point and shoot, as it has a pentamirror arrangement that effectivly deflects the light path to the viewfinder and only to the sensor when the internal mirror is raised. Early live preview models from Olympus had the world's first Live View system by flipping the mirror so that the picture preview could be seen on the rear monitor. Most manufacturers now incorporate Live View into most of their models but most Nikon consumer models do not as yet, apart from the newly relesed D90. The D40 and D40x are two year old designs and therefore do not have the more "modern" specs of say the Olympus E520 or Canon EOS450D. Most photographers trading up from a compact to a DSLR are surprised when they cannot use the monitor in the same way. However for most aspects of DSLR photography Live View is not something that is used all the time, low down shots, macro perhaps being the most convenient use, but for general photography there is no substitute for framing through the viewfinder, that's what we've been used to doing for over half a century! Besides as pointed out previously a DSLR is often too heavy to hand hold at arms length especially with a long lens.

My laptop won't turn on. I tried taking out the battery, a different battery, a differnet power cord. It won't turn on. Is there a way to reset it?

Are there any lights or indications on the battery itself that might tell you if the battery is good? I had a laptop with a similar problem and it turned out to be both a bad battery and a bad "power brick". replacing both fixed my issues. Also, try holding the power cable at the point where it connects to the laptop and push to the left or right. A friend's laptop would only start if you held the power cable to the left. Otherwise, it sounds like a mother board issue. Sorry.

Samsung N145 Plus battery charge failure

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Nikon d40x suddenly stopped working- won't turn on- was working fine and when I connected it to laptop to download, it turned on , then suddenly went blank.

Do you get the 'push shutter button again' or 'turn off and on again ' message? If so the motor in the SQ unit that charges the shutter and moves the mirror up and down has failed. A very very common problem. The part is on constant back order at Nikon, and good luck getting it anyway as Nikon is going to stop selling parts to anyone in just a few weeks.

Netbook charging indicator light won't light and battery won't charge. AC adapter works on other computers

Hello,
If the battery won't charge and the laptop won't turn on but the ac adapter works with other laptops, then the problem is the port where you plugin the ac adapter. Some of the laptops has it built in to the motherboard. So you might need to have it repaired by a technician. Or if the laptop is still in warranty, you might need to send it to the manufacturer to have it repaired or replaced. But if the laptop works without the battery, or it will turn on but the battery indicator is not lighting up, you're facing one of these problems.
1. The battery itself is dead. 2. the battery bay is loose 3. the battery itself is loose
Hope this helps...

I lost my manual to my duracell instant jumpstart . Just wanna know to properly recharge my unit.

I'm having the same problem where it won't take a charged. If you left it with a dead battery for say 6 months, it probably ruined the battery. You should have a charger for house current and car voltage charger. I guess your dead in the battery like me. I'm taking it to Battery Plus to check it out. It only had a 1 year limited warranty. Good Luck.

D40x won't turn on!

A couple of things. It could be a bad battery. It could be dirt at the bottom of the battery contacts in tha camera. If you have air spray, try blowing air into the battery cavity.

Otherwise, find a friend with a D40 and try a different battery.
