I need to know if you can over charge your archos? i had my archos on the charger for about a day and a half and when i realize it i look at it and the front of it had popped loose as if there was a balloon was in it. so i waited about a day and the inflation went down. then it came back on and started to restore the files but in the process the archos cut off. Now it want let me back on it. So my question is what can i do, is it the batteryor could it be the hard drive. please help asap.

Buy an external charger as the charging circuit has blown.
You can get them from ebay.

Make sure when you format archos its in file system fat32. I can only assume you need check folder permissions, which is why you cannot write to drive.

Hey

I suffered the same problem as you, fortunately I fixed it after a lot of messing around.
First what you want to do is switch off the system completely. Once the power light is off, switch the system back on, once the LCD screen turns on, immediately press and hold down the YV/LCD screen for about 5 seconds, a white screen should appear.

You will have three options, click the second option, (i think it is repair) and connect the archos to the PC. This will allow you to transfer all your files to PC because you can access the harddrive.

Once you have taken all the files you want, turn the system off again. Then again, turn the system on, hold down the TV/LCD button for 5 seconds until the white screen appears. Choose the format option. This will take your archos back to factory settings. It took me a few goes to get it back to normal but once its done, you will be glad you put the effort in.

Now all there is to do is to take your files back across via cable and you should be done!
