How do I transfer my camcorders recordings from HI8 tape to a computer or DVD?

I have no idea how to transfer recordings from my HI8 tape to my computer or DVD? I do not know what software I may need nor do I know where I can Start. Surely there is something you can do to make these HI8 recordings watchable rather than on the format they are on now. Please inform what it is I need and how to do it?

Do you have another video camera that will hook up to your computer? In the past, I've connected my old Hi-8 to my Mini DV, recorded the footage from the Hi-8 to the Mini DV and then digitized on the computer from the Mini DV. You will however need some video software like iMovie for this solution.
You can also, hook the Hi-8 camera up to a VCR or TV using the appropriate cable and view it that way.

Fast tape playback for samsung vp-l770 can't watch at normal speed on camcorder?

Tapes recorded on one camcorder very rarely play back satisfactorily on another machine - you will have to use your old camcorder to view them, or else get them transferred to DVD

Sony handycam video cassette

To the best of my knowledge 8mm VTR's have not been available for some time now. On the other hand there are plenty of Hi8 cameras and players available after market. eBay is a great source. Keep in mind that Hi8 cameras and decks will also play standard 8mm video tapes.
There are also many video tape transfer services that will transfer your 8mm tapes to DVD or other formats of your choice. Just Google "videotape transfer service"

How do I transfer hi 8 tapes to DVD without the working camcorder

Greetings jamhere,

I have the same issue myself with my gillion of family tapes and my Hi8 unit broken! The only remedy I have found is to either invest in a new lower price HI8 unit, rent a unit and get my transfers done, or pay to have the old tapes put on dvd professionally. None of these options are too appealing to me, but really seem to be the only options available. If only HI8 had an adapter like VHS-C! I personally would look on some of the online resellers to see if you can obtain a unit that is lower priced to meet your needs. Investing overall in a Hi8 as your only camcorder is not advised, due to it being almost obsolete technology.

I hope this helps.

Thank you,

Dorothy

Converting Hi-8 camcorder tapes to DVD

Did u try to connect your cam to a DVD recorder and record a dvd with the information from your tapes? Or I suggest to go to an electronic store and ask about a video converter package (Plextor and Dazzle both from Pinnacle Studio) and they will give you all the information. If you have more question please do not hesitate. Best regards

Problems with playback of HI8 tapes...

What's happening is that the tape in the cassette is being chewed on one side by the camera's tape transporting mechanism during playback, hence the distorted image and sound. The mechanism might be damaged (misalignment) or just dirty. Try not to play other tapes on this unit because they will become permanently damaged. The best way is to find another camcorder (if cleaning does not help). Note that some old cassettes of long recording time will exhibit this behavior more often because of thinner tape used.
