How to take up slack on mower throttle cable

If the screw(s) on the carb make no difference... the throttle cable may need to have slack added... IF there is an adjustment at the handlebar... start there and give it slack -- The throttle should be able to move without revving the engine.... if there is not slack or play... adjust the cable until there is.- the next adjustment is at the top of the carb, where the cable goes in -- ....If this does not help, you may have pinched the throttle cable, or have an air leak or the intake valves are too tight-(usually manifest in a "slow to idle" - "run away idle" situation) .....

There are two nuts on the cable from the throttle to the gas pedal
Loosen the outer nut then tighten the inner nut. Repeat that till you get the slack you want. It should be 1/4 " to 3/8" on that car.

overheating problem could be thermostat or water pump related. Throttle cable is adjustable. If adjustments are maxed out it cable could be routed wrong.

To adjust the throttle cable slack on a Piaggio ET2, you will need to locate the throttle cable adjuster. The adjuster is typically located near the carburetor or the throttle body.
To adjust the slack, first loosen the locknut that secures the adjuster. Then, turn the adjuster clockwise to tighten the cable or counterclockwise to loosen it until the desired slack is achieved.
Once you have adjusted the cable, tighten the locknut to secure the adjuster in place. Be sure to test the throttle to make sure it is functioning properly before riding the scooter.

Service control cables:

1. Disconnect the spark plug cable for safety.
2. Remove the controller cover and loosen the locknuts.
3. Remove all slack from the cable, reposition the locknuts as needed, and tighten the locknuts.
4. Test the controller by moving it through the various positions and making sure it responds appropriately. If it doesn't, readjust it.
5. Reconnect the spark plug.

If there is excess slack in the throttle cable, you can do 1 of 2 things. Either replace the cable, as over time it gets stretched out. Or you can look by the throttle and you should be able to slightly screw out the set screw and take a little slack out and then tighten the screw back up. Ok, I'm not very familiar with fuel injected models because I don't work on them but they should have a throttle cable like anything else. In the cable somewhere (usually close to the throttle grip) it has an adjuster. There should be two cables, a throttle cable and an idle cable. The throttle cable is the cable towards the front of the bike at the throttle mechanism as it pulls the throttle open. Loosen the lock nut and adjust the cable to take most but not all the slack out of the cable. You must have a bit of slack in each cable for the throttle to work freely. Do the same with the idle cable nearest the rear of the bike.
Once finished, with the engine off, twist the throttle grip to the wide open throttle position and release it. It should snap shut. If it doesn't it's not adjusted correctly. Readjust the throttle cable and idle cable until the throttle operates properly. You must get this right.

Failure to properly adjust the throttle cables could result in the loss of control of the bike resulting in serious injury or death. If you are not sure of how to do this, find someone who knows how to do it. You don't want your throttle sticking on you.

Safety switch sticking. Is the cable slack when you let go of the bar? Does it start even if the handle isn't squeezed? If it is and does then cable is frozen or the kill switch is stuck in the open position.
Lube the cable and check the kill switch
Get some WD40 and trace the cable back to the motor. Look at the kill switch assembly and locate the pivot point on the switch where the cable hooks to it. Spray it good then spray the cable at both end letting the lube go in the cable housing. Work handle lever and then see if it works.
