I replaced the ink in my epson stylus c84 printer. It worked once and never again. The red light is on steadily saying i need new ink! How do I reset the printer?
is only the red light solid and all other lights are normal? When you say worked but doesn't now when you try to print does anything print out? Is the print blank or unlegilble?is only the red light solid and all other lights are normal? When you say worked but doesn't now when you try to print does anything print out? You are asking because you got a message like this: parts inside my printer are reaching their end of service life?Read about it at this link:http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Storesupport/InkPadsForm.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes. 4 options: 1. Reset the printer with the utility above (after realizing that IF the pads are actually near full, which I've only seen once, ink will start overflowing onto your desk sometime in the future (put the printer on a baking pan for safety). 2a. Replace pads yourself (a pain and cost more than the printer is worth) parts drawing and parts are available at:http://www.compassmicro.com/ The rest is disassembly- either the service manual - you might find free (or a YouTube video), but definitely for $ at:http://www.2manuals.com/index.php?cPath=2_39 JUST DON'T TRY DOING THIS WITHOUT some guidance- you will end up at option 3 eventuallyif you do this you will still need to do # 1 to reset the counter2b. Have service firm do it ( way more than the printer is worth) 3a.If you really "love" that C84, or have a bunch of ink - look on Craigslist or ebay 3b. Buy "refurbished" epson printer with warranty, inks and probably free shipping at:http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/EsHome.do?BV_UseBVCookie=yes
You said all new cartridges.. But are they Epson Genuine Cartridges???? I had the same problem when I replaced with new, but generic cartridges.
After finally, going thru 2 sets of each, removed them and put in Genuine., and finally, everthing started printing fine. Weird , but true.
I suggested my answer problem below.

Problem for Epson Stylus C84 InkJet Printer Re: C84 I'm using generic ink, but the red

re: C84 I'm using generic ink, but the red doesn't work at all. I've done all the printer cleaning programs and swabbed inside the printer with alcohol, and re-inserted the cartridge multiple times. it still doesn't print at all.
Also now even the black every few lines prints the top half of the line or the bottom half of the line, or its smeared, etc...

Rank: Wiz Expert Rating: 84%, 22 votes I have learned from experience, that Epson does not like generic ink. You must use Epson Genuine Cartridges. Hopefully, you haven't screwed up the printer, like I did. I did try cleaning the heads and doing everything possible. Use 2 cartridges of ech set, for cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. ......But Nothing. Had to go out and purchase a new printer.; Good Luck :0( Asker's Testimonial " Thank you. Called Epson also and they didn't say it as directly, but advised real Epson ink too. Hope I didn't kill the printer! Generic ink for sale " - mclamemo Comments: Nov 12, 2009 - Funny. hahahahah, Me too! I would say, about 2 dozen cartridges to be exact.
Hi, Linda You may buy cartriges of different producers. Depending on producer on them can be or be not special yellow detachable labels. These are an yellow labels must be removed from them. Then put cartridges back. And try to clean head 4-5 times. And check nozzle test. Good luck.
ok seems nedd to reset te waste ink tank counter you can try the ssc utility to reset the counter her is the link http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml
good luck ake
Sorry but It uses Durabrite ink which tends to turn into hard gel if not printed
at least once a week. Its less painful and expensive to just
throw the printer out and buy a new one. I recommend the canon PIXMA
ip3500. It lets you remove the printhead for cleaning unlike the Epson.
If you want to try your luck at unclogging the printer heres a link to
a unclogging kit but be warned that results are not guaranteed!

The durabrite inks that EPSON invented is brilliant when you print pictures but it tends to harden very easily
An ink supplier advised turning off the printer for 15 minutes, turn it on and try again. That worked once. Next time he suggested turning off printer, removing all cartridges, waiting 15 minutes, replacing cartridges. I couldn't do this without turning the printer back on and going through the replace cartridges routine. Now the nozzle check routine printed magenta and yellow only. I've run the head cleaner a number of times with no success.
Hope one of these suggestions works for you.
