there are different reasons behind your USB cable not recognize such as:
unplug your computer/laptop: unplug the computer from the power supply , because most of the time computer or laptop don't turn off completely and mother board still get power.
Motherboard need rebooted: Some times mother board can go wrong and USB ports stop working.in this situation motherboard need reboot.

do you still have your battery working? if not, you may have a problem with the adapter. could be a partial contact from the main adapter or at the charging port on your laptop. use a tester and check for continuity on the adapter cable and also check the power output going into the laptop.
Is this laptop brand new? If it is new then it is still under warranty. I suggest you return it for repair or exchange because if you try to fix it you most likely void your warranty.
