Dell 5100 won't start... Power button blinks yellow.

Look closely at your UPS or consult the manual. A lot of UPSs have 2 types of outlets. One type supplies power in the event of a power failure, the other offers surge protection only. Either you have it plugged into a surge only outlet or the projector is trying to draw more power than your UPS is capable of supplying.

Most surge protection power boards will protect computer equipment from mains spikes and surges.
A better and more expensive solution is to use an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). These units provide surge and spike protection and also provide power in the event of mains power failure.
Make sure you select an UPS model that meet the power requirements of all your computer equipment that is connected to the UPS with a mains down time of say 1/2 hour to give you time to shut down your computer in an orderly manner.

Yes this UPS will protect the TV and the DVR.
The TV is pretty energy efficient, and uses just under 100watts powered on. The DVR uses under 30 watts, so under heavy load you won't go over 150 watts if just these two devices are plugged into the battery backup side of the UPS. I'm not sure how long this UPS battery last's in a power outage, but since you are not using it to the full 360 watts, you should get double time out of it, though of course, its best to power off your devices as soon as you can. Looks like it could be a memory problem. You could check if one or both of your memory is damaged by removing one at a time. The manual should have the procedure for adding / replacing memory.

if the system will not power on, I would suggest a new power supply as the first troubleshooting option as they are about 1/3 the price of the motherboard. The Flea Power indication on the motherboard only indicates power is reaching the board, not if all needed voltages are being received.
Normally on a Dell, if you are getting power then when you attempt to power on, you usually get a power LED indication on the power button. Solid Green/Blue is normal, Flashing Amber is Power supply bus failure, Solid Amber is normally a motherboard.
If you haven't bypassed the UPS and connected direct to the outlet, I would try that 1st, as the UPS could be the failure too.

suraj2567, Get rid of that very power hungry CRT type monitor LG700E!!! It's that, or get a new 1400 to 1500 va UPS. Then you won"t be able to yank and **** the output of the UPS around anymore when you turn on your old CRT monitor!!! Also check the status of the OLD SLA battery inside the UPS you are using. If it is more than 3yrs old, it might need to be replaced due to degraded capacity to supply surge current when it is "online" during a power outage in your area...

Considering the low draw of power you intend for the UPS it will work well. I have two monitors on a strip plugged into UPS along with desktop, routers and modems, UPS handles all well, it's just shortens battery backup times. Have had to power down from outages several times without any probs.

According to the manual I have, that is a site wiring fault. It means that there is no ground on your AC line coming into the unit.

You may have to hard reset it by unplugging the cord itself and plugging it back in. When power comes back during power shortage, there may be a power surge rushing to the modem/router causing it to behave abnormally. Also, you may want to put power surge protection on it as it may damage you modem/router as i did mine.

you may consider reseating the P1 and P2 cables (from the power supply) connected to the motherboard.


you can go to www.support.dell.com and enter the service tag of your dell system (found at the back of your system) and look for the manual on how to add/remove the parts of the computer.
