Hi There!
What you can do to clear the Drum Error message is to clean the corona wire.
Open front cover of the machine and remove the drum & toner cartridge assembly.
Remove the toner from the drum and gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side put it on a piece of paper to avoid scattering the toner.
Theres a blue tab on the upper left side of the drum, slide it from left to right, right to left about 5-6 times don't forget to put the blue tab back to it's home position(where the arrow is).
Put the toner back into the drum make sure it will click into place.
Reinstall the drum and toner assembly back into the machine and close the front cover.
LCD should display the date & time.
If you continue to receive the message try resetting the drum counter by doing the following:
Open the front cover
Press theOptionskey on the control panel. The display will show "REPLACE DRUM - 1.YES 2.NO".
Open up front op panel, mid door opens up tube sitting on top of drum unit is the toner cart! be care full can get messy!Pull lever on end of tube (will only go 1 way from original position)lift up and dispose of.pull white tape off of new cart install in drum push lever, open and close mid door a couple of times to cycle toner toner message will disappear.
First make sure your toner cart is the right one for your machine.. Try another cartridge to verify that even though the cart is new does not mean it does not have a problem. I would check all the silver contacts on the drum unit to be sure they are clean. use 90% alcohol to clean them, using a cloth to wipe them.
rwhen you replace the toner youare putting it in the drum cartridge.the whole black unit gets replaced.lift it up to remove.when you replace it also install a new toner cartridge the drum resevoir will be empty when
new it will need a new toner cart. to fill it now you need to reset the drum counter.push select function
button,to the right number 8 or 9 says counter display
push it,screen will will say drum count reset? push yes arrow screen will say are you sure? push yes
tada! if it now says replace toner open the white cover
over the drum then reclose it a motor will run for about 30 seconds its adding the new toner to the
resevoir you may need to do this about 3 times or until add toner message goes away
Nope No mirror, try cleaning the drum corona wire. Gently clean wire with a #2 pecil eraser to remove any dirt, then open fax sheet feeder and GENTLY clean with alcohol wipe across the light bar scanner. Paper dust builds up on this.
What i have seen on other customers fax's that the toner cart. is bad. bot before you go put a buy a new 1. take the toner out of the drum unit, blow out the drum unit with can air or compressor, ( Do this out side or some place where toner is not a factore ) slide the blue or green slide lever move it back an Fourthbought 15 times put the toner back in, tray it, if not then tray new toner, if not then the drum unit, hope the cheaper works out for you

Dust on drum refers to as you correctly stated the wire, it carries a electric charge that transfers the image. If the wire gets contaminated the electricity dont flow right so dust on drum is desplayed, you drum cart is faulty, they are not repairable items, go buy another then claim new/old one as faulty from them. Um aH.
