My Lincoln Continental 2000 Model oil light came on engine stopped after 25 feet. would not restart even though oil full. The car started the next day, but had a rattling sound at the top of the motor

Oil light is rather important it goes out if oil pressure is good comes on if oil pressure is low when it comes on damage is expected with continued operation like wearing of main bearings and pistons and cylinders can lead to a engine rebuild

Oil Gauge Dropping to 5 psi

Hi again Kelea, I'm glad to help!

Kelea, if you do not hear a lot of engine rattling noises then I would say your "Oil Pump" is OK and you need to replace the "OIL SENDING UNIT" which you can buy at Autozone. CAUTION: If you do hear a lot of rattling noises coming from your engine then I'd suggest having someone check the oil pressure. If the oil pressure is low then it could be all kinds of things that can cause low pressures. From engine bearings, to restrictions, to the oil pump itself. I would start with the oil sending unit first and see what your oil pressure looks like. If your oil pressure is good after replacing the sending unit then I'd consider never taking my vehicle back to the shop that told you it was the pump. Hope this helps and have awesome day.

Oil pressure drop to 20 lbs lifter start to rattle

20lbs really is not enough to cause the lifters to make noise, the gauge maybe wrong The oil pump screen maybe stopped up,and the rod and main bearings maybe worn.If this was helpful, please rate, thank you.

Sounds like a bearing going bad where do i look first

a rod bearing makes noise when you are just barely pulling .. it likely will quiet down as you accelerate and decellerate .. you can rev the engine up a bit then let up on the gas just enough to keep that rpm ..a rod bearing will rattle a lot then ... if a thud like noise happens when you are accelerating . then it could be a main bearing .. if the noise is there all the time and sounds like a rattle then its more likely a valve problem .. old oil can cause the lifters to stick and rattle continuously .. if the noise you hear is a squeal then you could have a bad bearing in the idler pully (for fan belt) or alternator .. if thats the case you can put a drop of oil on the bearings one at a time until the squeal goes away .. that will identify which part is going bad .. there are other less likely bearings that can go bad .. like the cam, distributer, air compressor and water pump .. each have their own type noise ..

I have an Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 L when the engine is cold, motor sound good oil pressure is between 30 and 55 as it starts to get hotter oil pressure drops and the rocker arms start to rattle. When engine is...

The oil pressure in an engine will naturally drop off as the engine warms up. If the oil pressure is dropping too much it could be cause by several things. I don't know how many miles your engine has on it but the oil pump may be getting weak and may need to be replaced. Worn out cam bearings or crank bearings can also cause low oil pressure. Sounds like your engine may be ready for a rebuild
